Did budget coverage turn out to be an underperforming, overpriced insurance policy? Say no more because many drivers feel the same as you.
Due to the increasing number of insurance providers from which to choose, it is very difficult to find the lowest cost insurance company.
Consumers need to take a look at other company’s rates quite often because insurance rates are rarely the same from one policy term to another. Even if you got the best premium rates for Imperial coverage six months ago there is a good chance you can find better prices now. Block out anything you think you know about insurance because you’re about to find out the best methods to buy cheaper insurance.
Many factors are part of the equation when premium rates are determined. Some are obvious like your driving record, but other criteria are more transparent like where you live or your financial responsibility.
Some providers don’t list all their discounts very well, so we break down a few of the more common as well as some of the hidden credits available to you.
As a footnote on discounts, some of the credits will not apply to all coverage premiums. Most only apply to the price of certain insurance coverages like liability and collision coverage. Despite the appearance that it’s possible to get free car insurance, it’s just not the way it works.
A list of car insurance companies and a partial list of their discounts can be found below.
If you need lower rates, check with every prospective company what discounts are available to you. Discounts may not be available in your area. To choose providers that offer some of these discounts, follow this link.
Auto insurance companies such as Progressive, Geico, Allstate and State Farm consistently run ads on TV and radio. All the ads tend to make the same promise about how much you will save if you change your auto insurance coverage to their company. How is it possible that every company can save you money? Here is the trick they use.
Auto insurance companies are able to cherry pick for the type of driver that will add to their bottom line. One example of a desirable insured might be described as over age 30, has few claims, and has great credit. Any person who meets those qualifications may get the lowest rates and will save quite a bit of money when switching.
Consumers who may not quite match this ideal profile will be quoted higher premium rates and ends up with the customer not purchasing. The trick is to say “customers who switch” but not “all drivers who get quotes” can get the lowest rates when switching. That is how companies can claim big savings.
Because each company has a different risk profile, drivers should quote coverage with many companies. It is impossible to guess which company will fit you best based on your risk profile.
When it comes to choosing coverage for your personal vehicles, there isn’t really a single plan that fits everyone. Every situation is different and a cookie cutter policy won’t apply. For example, these questions might point out if you might need professional guidance.
If you can’t answer these questions but a few of them apply then you might want to talk to a licensed insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, fill out this quick form or you can go here for a list of companies in your area.
Understanding the coverages of your insurance policy can be of help when determining which coverages you need and the correct deductibles and limits. The coverage terms in a policy can be impossible to understand and coverage can change by endorsement. Below you’ll find the usual coverages available from insurance companies.
This coverage will cover damage that occurs to a person or their property that is your fault. It protects you from claims by other people, and doesn’t cover your own vehicle damage or injuries.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. You might see limits of 25/50/25 that means you have a $25,000 limit per person for injuries, $50,000 for the entire accident, and property damage coverage for $25,000. Another option is a combined single limit or CSL that pays claims from the same limit and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.
Liability insurance covers claims like legal defense fees, pain and suffering, bail bonds and medical expenses. How much liability should you purchase? That is a decision to put some thought into, but you should buy as much as you can afford.
This coverage pays for damage to your Imperial from colliding with another vehicle or an object, but not an animal. You will need to pay your deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision coverage pays for things like sideswiping another vehicle, driving through your garage door, scraping a guard rail and crashing into a ditch. This coverage can be expensive, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from vehicles that are older. Drivers also have the option to bump up the deductible to bring the cost down.
Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage protects you and your vehicle’s occupants when the “other guys” are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. It can pay for medical payments for you and your occupants as well as damage to your Chrysler Imperial.
Because many people only carry the minimum required liability limits, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is important protection for you and your family. Usually these coverages are similar to your liability insurance amounts.
Med pay and PIP coverage kick in for bills for chiropractic care, dental work and prosthetic devices. They are often used in conjunction with a health insurance plan or if there is no health insurance coverage. Medical payments and PIP cover you and your occupants and also covers getting struck while a pedestrian. PIP coverage is not available in all states but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage
Comprehensive insurance pays for damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first must pay your deductible and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.
Comprehensive insurance covers things such as a tree branch falling on your vehicle, hail damage, hitting a deer and a broken windshield. The most a insurance company will pay at claim time is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle is not worth much it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.
Cheap 1990 Chrysler Imperial insurance can be sourced both online and from local agencies, so you need to quote auto insurance with both in order to have the best chance of saving money. Some insurance providers may not offer online quoting and these small insurance companies work with local independent agents.
When searching for the cheapest auto insurance quotes, don’t be tempted to sacrifice coverage to reduce premiums. There are a lot of situations where someone dropped collision coverage only to regret at claim time that a couple dollars of savings turned into a financial nightmare. The goal is to find the BEST coverage at the best price while not skimping on critical coverages.

I live on the south side of Las Vegas, NV. I quoted with Allstate, American Family, and Esurance for my Imperial and cut my rates about $90 a year. Insured with Allstate before. I increased coverages a little too. My Chrysler doesn’t have full coverage.

I’m in Chicago, IL. Can’t remember who all I quoted but I ended up saving about $30 each month. I don’t insure for physical damage though.

If you have a clean record and live in the vicinity of Worcester, MA, check out 21st Century. They seem to be cheaper. Insured with Nationwide before. I’m a pretty good driver though. I think I’ll get rid of full coverage next time.

I got quite a few price quotes for a 1990 Chrysler Imperial in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Ended up at roughly $120 every six months with American Family. I’m thinking about dropping full coverage though.

I’m in the east part of Aurora, IL. Got free quotes online for a 1990 Chrysler Imperial. Ended up at about $120 savings annually. Went with Allstate. Was with AAA. Hopefully won’t need it. Not sure if rates are cheaper online or not. I think I’ll get rid of full coverage next time.

Cheap is not always the best policy. I’m in the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland. I quoted with GEICO, AAA, and Farmers for my Imperial and saved $117 a year. It’s too old for full coverage.

Cheap is not always the best policy. From a town just southwest of Charleston, WV. I got free prices from Amica, MetLife, and a few others for my Chrysler and I’m now saving $22 a month. Was with USAA. It’s easy to compare rates online now.

I got a good deal I think. I’m in Paterson, NJ. Received prices from State Farm, American Family, and Encompass for my Imperial and am saving around $80 a year. Good savings if you bundle. Not sure if rates are cheaper online or through an agent.

If you have a good history and live around Evansville, Indiana, check out 21st Century. I saved quite a bit. Even increased coverage a bit. Just go online and compare their rates. Next renewal I’ll just do liability.
