Lower Your 1990 Honda Prelude Insurance Cost

When looking for cheaper insurance, do you get frustrated by the number of car insurance providers in your area? Many other drivers are too. There are so many providers available that it can really be a chore to find the best prices.

Get lower-cost insurance with discounts

Car insurance companies do not list all possible discounts very clearly, so we break down some of the more common and also the more inconspicuous credits that may apply to you.

  • Paper-free Discount – Many insurance companies will provide an incentive for completing your application on their website.
  • Federal Government Employee – Federal government employees could qualify for a slight premium decrease on Prelude insurance with a few insurance companies.
  • Club Memberships – Having an affiliation with a professional or civic organization could qualify you for a break when shopping for insurance.
  • Discount for Good Grades – Excelling in school can earn a discount of 20% or more. The good student discount can last until age 25.
  • Air Bags and Passive Restraints – Factory options such as air bags or motorized seat belts can receive discounts of 20 to 30 percent.
  • Mature Driver Discount – Drivers over the age of 55 can get a small decrease in premiums on Prelude insurance.

As is typical with insurance, most discounts do not apply to the entire policy premium. A few only apply to specific coverage prices like comp or med pay. So even though you would think you would end up receiving a 100% discount, insurance companies aren’t that generous.

Ways to get auto insurance rate quotes

Performing a rate comparison can take hours if you aren’t aware of the fastest way to get free quotes. You could waste time talking to insurance companies in your area, or you could use the web to get the quickest rates.

Many popular insurance companies belong to a marketplace that enables customers to submit one quote, and each company can provide price quotes for coverage. This system prevents you from having to do quotation requests for every auto insurance company. To compare rates now click here to open in new window.

One minor caviat to comparing rates this way is that consumers can’t choose which carriers you will receive quotes from. So if you prefer to choose specific insurance companies to receive pricing from, we have a listing of the cheapest auto insurance companies in your area. Click here to view list.

The method you choose is up to you, but be certain you are entering exactly the same quote information with every price quote. If you compare different values for each quote you can’t possibly decipher which rate is best. Having just a slight variation in coverage limits may result in a large different in cost. And when price shopping your coverage, quoting more increases your odds of finding a lower rate than you’re paying now. Not every company provides online rate quotes, so it’s important to also get quotes from the smaller companies as well.

Tailor your auto insurance coverage to you

When it comes to buying the right insurance coverage for your vehicles, there really is not a single plan that fits everyone. Each situation is unique.

These are some specific questions may help you determine whether you might need an agent’s assistance.

  • Are my friends covered when driving my 1990 Honda Prelude?
  • Do I have coverage when using my vehicle for my home business?
  • Does my 1990 Honda Prelude qualify for pleasure use?
  • Am I covered when driving in Canada or Mexico?
  • Is my nanny covered when driving my vehicle?
  • How high should deductibles be on a 1990 Honda Prelude?
  • When would I need rental car insurance?
  • Does my insurance cover damage caused when ticketed for reckless driving?
  • When should I not file a claim?

If you don’t know the answers to these questions but one or more may apply to you, you might consider talking to an insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, fill out this quick form.

Learn about auto insurance coverages for a Honda Prelude

Having a good grasp of auto insurance aids in choosing the best coverages and the correct deductibles and limits. Auto insurance terms can be impossible to understand and reading a policy is terribly boring.

Comprehensive protection

Comprehensive insurance coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage from a wide range of events other than collision. A deductible will apply then your comprehensive coverage will pay.

Comprehensive coverage protects against claims such as rock chips in glass, damage from flooding, a tree branch falling on your vehicle and theft. The most you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle is not worth much consider removing comprehensive coverage.

Uninsured or underinsured coverage

This coverage protects you and your vehicle’s occupants from other motorists when they are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. This coverage pays for medical payments for you and your occupants as well as damage to your Honda Prelude.

Because many people only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is a good idea. Frequently these coverages are identical to your policy’s liability coverage.

Medical expense coverage

Med pay and PIP coverage reimburse you for short-term medical expenses like pain medications, ambulance fees, chiropractic care, dental work and X-ray expenses. They are used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. It covers not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants in addition to getting struck while a pedestrian. PIP coverage is not universally available but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage

Collision insurance

This coverage pays for damage to your Prelude resulting from colliding with an object or car. A deductible applies and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.

Collision coverage protects against things like damaging your car on a curb, hitting a parking meter, sideswiping another vehicle, colliding with another moving vehicle and crashing into a building. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so you might think about dropping it from lower value vehicles. It’s also possible to raise the deductible to bring the cost down.

Liability car insurance

Liability coverage can cover damage that occurs to other people or property. It protects YOU against other people’s claims, and doesn’t cover your own vehicle damage or injuries.

It consists of three limits, bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. You commonly see values of 100/300/100 that means you have a $100,000 limit per person for injuries, a total of $300,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and property damage coverage for $100,000. Alternatively, you may have one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which provides one coverage limit without having the split limit caps.

Liability coverage pays for things such as medical expenses, pain and suffering, attorney fees and legal defense fees. How much coverage you buy is a decision to put some thought into, but buy as high a limit as you can afford.

Don’t break the bank

You just read many ways to lower your 1990 Honda Prelude insurance car insurance rates. The key thing to remember is the more providers you compare, the more likely it is that you will get a better rate. You may even find the most savings is with a lesser-known regional company.

When searching for the cheapest insurance quotes, it’s very important that you do not buy poor coverage just to save money. There are too many instances where consumers will sacrifice liability coverage limits and discovered at claim time that the savings was not a smart move. Your goal should be to purchase plenty of coverage for the lowest cost while still protecting your assets.

More affordable insurance coverage is possible from both online companies and from local agencies, and you should be comparing both in order to have the best chance of saving money. Some insurance providers don’t offer rates over the internet and these small, regional companies prefer to sell through independent agents.

If you have a good history and are close to Rochester, MN, check out State Farm. They seem to be cheaper. Left MetLife to switch. Good savings if you bundle. Book value doesn’t justify full coverage anymore.

It all costs too much. I live east of Saint Paul, MN. Received prices from Sentry, Eastwood, 21st Century, and American Family for my Honda and saved $107 a year. Insured with Amica before. I don’t put full coverage on it.

Cheaper car insurance is a myth. I’m in the south part of Kailua, HI. I got free rates from Western Auto Insurance, Auto-Owners, GMAC, and MetLife for my Honda and I think I cut my rates about $20 each month. When should I drop full coverage?

From south side of Seattle, WA. Got car insurance rates from AAA, Nationwide, and some smaller one I can’t remember the name of for my Prelude and saved just over $80 a year. I have kids on my policy, too. Get lots of quotes to find the best rate. I don’t insure for physical damage though.
