It’s up to you how you get prices quotes, just do your best to enter exactly the same deductibles and coverage limits for every company. If you enter different values for each quote you can’t possibly determine which rate is truly the best. Just a small difference in insurance coverages may result in large price differences. And when comparison shopping, comparing a wide range of rates gives you a better chance of getting the best rates. Some insurance companies are not set up to provide online price quotes, so it’s important to also get price estimates from those companies as well.
Some providers don’t necessarily list all possible discounts very clearly, so we researched some of the best known as well as some of the hidden credits available to you.
It’s important to note that most discounts do not apply to all coverage premiums. Some only reduce the price of certain insurance coverages like liability, collision or medical payments. Despite the appearance that you could get a free insurance coverage policy, companies don’t profit that way.
Popular insurance coverage companies and a selection of discounts can be found below.
When getting free insurance coverage quotes, it’s a good idea to all companies you are considering which discounts you may be entitled to. Savings might not apply in your state. To locate insurance coverage companies that have a full spectrum of discounts, click here.
When it comes to choosing the best insurance coverage coverage, there really is no cookie cutter policy. Coverage needs to be tailored to your specific needs and a cookie cutter policy won’t apply. For instance, these questions could help you determine whether or not you would benefit from an agent’s advice.
If it’s difficult to answer those questions, you may need to chat with a licensed insurance agent. If you don’t have a local agent, fill out this quick form or you can go here for a list of companies in your area.
Having a good grasp of your policy can help you determine appropriate coverage at the best deductibles and correct limits. Car insurance terms can be difficult to understand and even agents have difficulty translating policy wording. Shown next are the normal coverages offered by car insurance companies.
Medical costs insurance
Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage provide coverage for bills for things like funeral costs, X-ray expenses, nursing services, chiropractic care and surgery. The coverages can be utilized in addition to your health insurance policy or if you do not have health coverage. It covers you and your occupants and also covers if you are hit as a while walking down the street. Personal Injury Protection is only offered in select states but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage
Liability car insurance
Liability coverage will cover injuries or damage you cause to people or other property in an accident. Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. You commonly see policy limits of 50/100/50 that translate to a limit of $50,000 per injured person, $100,000 for the entire accident, and a total limit of $50,000 for damage to vehicles and property.
Liability coverage protects against things like attorney fees, structural damage, funeral expenses and repair costs for stationary objects. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is a personal decision, but consider buying as much as you can afford.
Collision protection
This will pay to fix damage to your Mighty Max Pickup resulting from a collision with an object or car. A deductible applies then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision coverage pays for things such as crashing into a ditch, hitting a parking meter, sideswiping another vehicle and colliding with a tree. This coverage can be expensive, so you might think about dropping it from vehicles that are older. You can also bump up the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.
UM/UIM Coverage
Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage protects you and your vehicle when the “other guys” either have no liability insurance or not enough. It can pay for injuries to you and your family and also any damage incurred to your 1992 Mitsubishi Mighty Max Pickup.
Since a lot of drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, their limits can quickly be used up. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages should not be overlooked.
Comprehensive or Other Than Collision
Comprehensive insurance coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first must pay your deductible then your comprehensive coverage will pay.
Comprehensive coverage protects against claims like fire damage, hitting a bird, damage from getting keyed, falling objects and vandalism. The maximum payout you’ll receive from a claim is the actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible consider removing comprehensive coverage.

I chose to switch to 21st Century from AIG Insurance. I live in Springfield, Massachusetts. Left Encompass to switch. BTW speeding tickets are not good. I don’t have comp or collision coverage.

Great site. From Bangor, ME. Quoted a bunch of companies. Saved roughly $20 a month. Allstate was the cheapest option for me. Insured with USAA before. Good multi-policy discounts. When should I drop full coverage?

If you have a good history and live in the vicinity of Sioux Falls, SD, check out GEICO. They seem to be cheaper. I get a discount for insuring multiple vehicles. I used their website to get prices. I don’t have comp or collision coverage.

I compared a lot of rate quotes for a 1992 Mitsubishi Mighty Max Pickup in Boise, ID. Ended up at about $90 every six months with AIG Insurance. Left Western Auto Insurance to switch. Have a couple speeding tickets too. Are quotes cheaper online? I think I’ll get rid of full coverage next time.

Liked the article. I live just to the north of Tucson, AZ. I compared lots of rates. Saved about $20 a month. GEICO was the best choice for me. Have an at-fault accident tho. Not sure about claim service.

IT’S ALL TOO EXPENSIVE! Found cheapest coverage with Amica for my Mighty Max Pickup and cut my rates about $70 a year. Still almost need a second mortgage. Just liability coverage since it’s getting old.
