Buying budget car insurance over the internet is challenging for vehicle owners that are not comfortable with quoting and price shopping over the internet. With such a large number of agents and insurers available, how are vehicle owners expected to even start to compare every one to find the best available rates?
Some providers don’t always advertise the entire discount list in a way that’s easy to find, so the list below contains a few of the more well known and the harder-to-find discounts that may be available.
Just know that most discounts do not apply to the overall cost of the policy. Most only cut the price of certain insurance coverages like liability, collision or medical payments. So even though you would think having all the discounts means you get insurance for free, nobody gets a free ride.
Some companies who may offer many of the previously listed discounts are:
If you want cheaper auto insurance quotes, ask each company or agent which discounts you may be entitled to. Discounts might not be offered on policies in your area. To locate providers who offer online auto insurance quotes, click this link.
Lots of things are taken into consideration when premium rates are determined. Some are obvious like a motor vehicle report, but others are more transparent like your continuous coverage or your vehicle rating.
When it comes to buying the right insurance coverage, there really is no cookie cutter policy. Each situation is unique.
Here are some questions about coverages that can help discover whether you could use an agent’s help.
If you’re not sure about those questions, you may need to chat with a licensed insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, take a second and complete this form.
Learning about specific coverages of your auto insurance policy aids in choosing the best coverages at the best deductibles and correct limits. The terms used in a policy can be impossible to understand and reading a policy is terribly boring.
Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance kick in for short-term medical expenses like funeral costs, nursing services, chiropractic care, surgery and X-ray expenses. The coverages can be used in conjunction with a health insurance policy or if you are not covered by health insurance. Coverage applies to you and your occupants as well as being hit by a car walking across the street. PIP coverage is only offered in select states and may carry a deductible
Your UM/UIM coverage provides protection when other motorists either have no liability insurance or not enough. Covered losses include medical payments for you and your occupants and also any damage incurred to your 1992 Porsche 911.
Since a lot of drivers only carry the minimum required liability limits, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage should not be overlooked. Normally the UM/UIM limits do not exceed the liability coverage limits.
This coverage will cover injuries or damage you cause to other’s property or people. It protects YOU from legal claims by others. Liability doesn’t cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and property damage. You might see liability limits of 25/50/25 which stand for a limit of $25,000 per injured person, $50,000 for the entire accident, and a total limit of $25,000 for damage to vehicles and property. Occasionally you may see one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which combines the three limits into one amount with no separate limits for injury or property damage.
Liability can pay for things such as court costs, legal defense fees, medical expenses, attorney fees and loss of income. How much coverage you buy is up to you, but you should buy as large an amount as possible.
This coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage caused by collision with an object or car. A deductible applies then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision insurance covers things such as sideswiping another vehicle, scraping a guard rail, colliding with another moving vehicle, rolling your car and crashing into a building. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so consider removing coverage from older vehicles. It’s also possible to choose a higher deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
Comprehensive insurance coverage covers damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You need to pay your deductible first and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.
Comprehensive can pay for things such as fire damage, falling objects, hail damage, rock chips in glass and hitting a bird. The most your auto insurance company will pay is the ACV or actual cash value, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value consider dropping full coverage.
Drivers who switch companies do it for a variety of reasons including extreme rates for teen drivers, questionable increases in premium, delays in responding to claim requests and even denial of a claim. It doesn’t matter why you want to switch switching auto insurance companies can be less work than you think.

If you have a good history and live around Phoenix, Arizona, check out GEICO. They seem to be cheaper. I get a discount for insuring multiple vehicles. Can still barely afford it.

Where is cheaper car insurance? I’m in the suburbs of Salem, OR. I quoted with AAA, Nationwide, and some smaller one I can’t remember the name of for my 1992 Porsche 911 and I’m now saving $18 a month. Insured with AAA before. I increased coverages a little too. Still almost need a second mortgage.
