1992 Volvo 240 Insurance Quotes – 5 Tips to Save

Looking for lower auto insurance rates for your Volvo 240? Feel like you’re a prisoner to an underperforming, overpriced auto insurance policy? You’re preaching to the choir because many consumers are feeling buyer’s remorse and feel like there’s no way out.

Online insurance companies like Progressive, Geico and Farmers Insurance continually bombard you with fancy advertisements and it is challenging if not impossible to sift through the bull and take the time to shop coverage around.

If you have car insurance now, you stand a good chance to be able to save some money using this strategy. Finding affordable coverage is not that difficult. But drivers benefit from understanding how big insurance companies compete online and use this information to your advantage.

First Step: Get free insurance coverage quotes

The are a couple different ways of comparing rate quotes from different insurance companies. The fastest way to find the lowest 1992 Volvo 240 rates involves getting comparison quotes online. This is very easy and can be done in just a few minutes using one of these methods.

  • Probably the best way to find low rates is a comparison rater form (click to open form in new window). This style of form keeps you from doing separate quotes for each price estimate. A single form gets prices estimates from several companies.
  • A less efficient way to shop for insurance coverage online consists of visiting each company’s website and get a separate price quote. For instance, let’s assume you want to compare rates from Farmers, Progressive and Allstate. To find out each rate you need to visit each site to enter your coverage information, which is why first method is reommended. For a list of links to companies insuring cars in your area, click here.
  • The least efficient way to do your price quoting is to drive around to insurance agents’ offices. Shopping for insurance coverage online eliminates this option unless you have a complicated situation and need the professional advice of a local agency. Some companies do allow you to find lower rates online but buy from a local insurance agent.

Which method you use is up to you, but make darn sure you compare equivalent coverages and limits on every quote. If you compare differing limits it will be impossible to truly determine the lowest rate. Even a minor difference in insurance coverages can mean a large discrepancy in price. And when comparison shopping, obtaining a wide range of quotes will increase your chances of finding a lower rate. Not every company allows you to get online rate quotes, so you should also compare price estimates from them as well.

How much car insurance do I need?

When it comes to choosing proper insurance coverage for your vehicles, there isn’t really a perfect coverage plan. Every insured’s situation is different so your insurance should reflect that These are some specific questions may help highlight whether or not you will benefit from professional help.

  • Is my 1992 Volvo 240 covered for flood damage?
  • Does my insurance cover a custom paint job?
  • Do I need an umbrella policy?
  • What if I total my 1992 Volvo 240 and owe more than it’s worth?
  • When should I drop full coverage on my 1992 Volvo 240?
  • Does medical payments coverage apply to all occupants?

If you’re not sure about those questions but you know they apply to you, then you may want to think about talking to a licensed insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, complete this form or you can go here for a list of companies in your area.

Specifics of your auto insurance policy

Learning about specific coverages of a auto insurance policy can be of help when determining which coverages you need and proper limits and deductibles. Policy terminology can be impossible to understand and reading a policy is terribly boring. Below you’ll find the usual coverages available from auto insurance companies.

Liability insurance

This coverage protects you from damage that occurs to other’s property or people. It consists of three limits, bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have values of 25/50/25 that translate to $25,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, $50,000 for the entire accident, and property damage coverage for $25,000. Occasionally you may see one number which is a combined single limit which limits claims to one amount and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.

Liability coverage pays for claims like medical expenses, bail bonds, legal defense fees and loss of income. How much liability coverage do you need? That is a personal decision, but consider buying as large an amount as possible.

Comprehensive coverage (or Other than Collision)

This pays to fix your vehicle from damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You need to pay your deductible first and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.

Comprehensive insurance covers claims such as vandalism, rock chips in glass and falling objects. The maximum payout you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle’s value is low consider dropping full coverage.

Insurance for medical payments

Med pay and PIP coverage kick in for bills like EMT expenses, dental work and surgery. The coverages can be used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if you do not have health coverage. They cover you and your occupants as well as being hit by a car walking across the street. PIP coverage is not an option in every state but can be used in place of medical payments coverage

Uninsured Motorist or Underinsured Motorist insurance

This coverage gives you protection when other motorists either have no liability insurance or not enough. It can pay for injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and damage to your Volvo 240.

Due to the fact that many drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. So UM/UIM coverage is important protection for you and your family. Frequently the UM/UIM limits do not exceed the liability coverage limits.

Coverage for collisions

This pays to fix your vehicle from damage resulting from colliding with an object or car. You will need to pay your deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.

Collision insurance covers things like hitting a mailbox, crashing into a building and rolling your car. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider dropping it from lower value vehicles. You can also bump up the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
