1995 Nissan Altima Insurance Quotes – 8 Policy Discounts

Have you finally had enough of trying to scrape together enough money to pay car insurance each month? You have the same problem as many other drivers. There are many insurance companies to choose from, and even though it’s nice to have a choice, more choices can make it harder to get the best deal.

It’s a good habit to check car insurance prices on a regular basis due to the fact that insurance rates are variable and change quite frequently. Just because you had the best rate for Altima insurance a year ago a different company probably has better prices today. There is a lot of wrong information about car insurance out there, but we’re going to give you some of the best ways to lower your car insurance bill.

The purpose of this article is to teach you how to effectively get price quotes and some tips to save money. If you are paying for car insurance now, you will most likely be able to save some money using these tips. Consumers only need to know how to find the lowest price over the internet.

How to buy insurance online

There are a variety of methods you can shop for insurance but there is one way that is easier and takes less work. You could spend the better part of a day driving to insurance companies in your area, or you could use online quotes to get pricing more quickly.

Many of the larger companies participate in a marketplace where prospective buyers only type in their quote data once, and at least one company can provide price quotes for coverage. This prevents consumers from doing repetitive form submissions for each company you want a rate for.

The one disadvantage to getting quotes like this is you can’t choose which insurance companies you want to price. So if you want to select specific providers for rate comparison, we have a page of insurance companies in your area. Click to view list.

The approach you take is up to you, just be sure you’re using apples-to-apples coverages and limits with every price quote. If you compare different liability limits it will be impossible to make an equal comparison.

Use discounts to get cheaper insurance rates

Car insurance is not cheap, but you might find some hidden discounts that can help lower your rates. Some of these disounts will be visible when you purchase, but less common discounts must be manually applied before being credited.

  • Low Miles Discount – Driving less may allow you to get lower insurancerates on the low mileage vehicles.
  • Braking Control Discount – Vehicles with ABS and/or traction control can stop better under adverse conditions and the ABS can save up to 10%.
  • Employee of Federal Government – Federal government employees can earn a discount up to 10% for Altima insurance depending on your insurance provider.
  • One Accident Forgiven – Not necessarily a discount, but certain companies will turn a blind eye to one accident before your rates go up so long as you haven’t had any claims for a specific time period.
  • Full Payment Discount – If paying your policy premium upfront instead of paying each month you may reduce your total bill.
  • Responsible Driver Discounts – Drivers without accidents may receive a discount up to 45% for Altima insurance than less cautious drivers.
  • Discounts for Multiple Vehicles – Purchasing coverage when you have multiple cars or trucks on one policy can reduce rates for all insured vehicles.
  • Military Discounts – Having a family member in the military can result in better rates.

Just know that most credits do not apply to the overall cost of the policy. Some only apply to the cost of specific coverages such as collision or personal injury protection. So when it seems like all those discounts means the company will pay you, nobody gets a free ride.

A partial list of companies who may offer these money-saving discounts include:

Before buying, ask all companies you are considering which discounts you qualify for. Some credits may not be available in your state. To see a list of insurance companies with discount rates, click here to view.

Tailor your insurance coverage to you

When choosing the best insurance coverage for your vehicles, there is no one size fits all plan. Your needs are not the same as everyone else’s so your insurance needs to address that. These are some specific questions can help discover whether you might need professional guidance.

  • When should I not file a claim?
  • Do I need special endorsements for business use of my vehicle?
  • Am I missing any policy discounts?
  • What can I do if my company denied a claim?
  • When would I need rental car insurance?
  • Should I bundle my homeowners policy with my auto?
  • Am I covered if my car is in a flood?
  • Can I make deliveries for my home business?

If you’re not sure about those questions but a few of them apply, you may need to chat with an insurance agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, simply complete this short form or go to this page to view a list of companies. It only takes a few minutes and can provide invaluable advice.

Car insurance 101

Learning about specific coverages of a car insurance policy can be of help when determining appropriate coverage and the correct deductibles and limits. The terms used in a policy can be ambiguous and nobody wants to actually read their policy. Shown next are the usual coverages offered by car insurance companies.

Comprehensive coverage (or Other than Collision) – Comprehensive insurance coverage covers damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. A deductible will apply and then insurance will cover the rest of the damage.

Comprehensive insurance covers things like hitting a deer, falling objects and damage from a tornado or hurricane. The most you’ll receive from a claim is the cash value of the vehicle, so if the vehicle is not worth much consider dropping full coverage.

Liability auto insurance – This coverage protects you from injuries or damage you cause to other’s property or people. It protects you from legal claims by others. It does not cover your own vehicle damage or injuries.

Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. You commonly see values of 25/50/25 that translate to $25,000 bodily injury coverage, a total of $50,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and a total limit of $25,000 for damage to vehicles and property. Another option is a combined single limit or CSL which provides one coverage limit with no separate limits for injury or property damage.

Liability can pay for things like emergency aid, loss of income, medical expenses and attorney fees. How much liability should you purchase? That is a personal decision, but consider buying as large an amount as possible.

Insurance for medical payments – Med pay and PIP coverage pay for short-term medical expenses for surgery, doctor visits and X-ray expenses. The coverages can be utilized in addition to your health insurance policy or if you are not covered by health insurance. Coverage applies to not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants and also covers being hit by a car walking across the street. Personal injury protection coverage is not universally available and may carry a deductible

Collision – Collision insurance covers damage to your Altima caused by collision with a stationary object or other vehicle. A deductible applies and then insurance will cover the remainder.

Collision can pay for claims like damaging your car on a curb, crashing into a building, hitting a parking meter, backing into a parked car and driving through your garage door. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from vehicles that are older. Another option is to choose a higher deductible to bring the cost down.

Uninsured Motorist or Underinsured Motorist insurance – This coverage protects you and your vehicle when the “other guys” either have no liability insurance or not enough. Covered losses include medical payments for you and your occupants as well as damage to your Nissan Altima.

Since many drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, their limits can quickly be used up. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is very important. Normally your uninsured/underinsured motorist coverages are set the same as your liablity limits.
