Lower Your 1996 GMC Sierra 2500 Insurance Rates

Searching for cheaper insurance for a GMC Sierra 2500 could be an all-consuming task, but you can use our auto insurance buying tips and make it easy.

There is a better way to compare auto insurance rates so we’re going to tell you the quickest way to quote coverages for your GMC and get the cheapest rates from local insurance agents and online providers.

It is always a good idea to check auto insurance prices as often as possible due to the fact that insurance prices are variable and change quite frequently. If you had the lowest rates for Sierra insurance last year you will most likely find a better premium rate today. Forget anything you know (or think you know) about auto insurance because you’re going to learn one of the easiest ways to remove unneeded coverages and save money.

If you have insurance now or are shopping for new coverage, you can use these techniques to find better prices and possibly find even better coverage. Locating the cheapest protection is simple if you know the tricks. Vehicle owners only need to know how to compare rates online.

How to buy insurance coverage online

Shopping for lower insurance coverage rates is a ton of work if you don’t utilize the best way to get rate quotes. You can waste a lot of time talking to agents in your area, or you could use online quotes to get prices fast.

Most of the larger companies belong to an insurance system that allows shoppers to enter their policy data once, and each company can provide price quotes determined by their information. This prevents consumers from doing quote requests to each company.

The one downside to doing it this way is buyers cannot specifically choose which carriers to get quotes from. So if you want to choose specific insurance companies to compare, we have assembled a list of insurance coverage companies in your area. Click to view list.

It’s your choice how you get your quotes, but compare equivalent information for each price quote. If the quotes have different values for each quote it will be very difficult to get a fair rate comparison.

Don’t assume everyone needs the same insurance coverage coverage

When buying adequate coverage, there really is no one size fits all plan. Your needs are not the same as everyone else’s.

Here are some questions about coverages that could help you determine whether or not you would benefit from an agent’s advice.

  • Is borrowed equipment or tools covered if stolen or damaged?
  • Should I buy additional glass protection?
  • Where can I find DUI or SR-22 insurance?
  • What is the difference between comprehensive and collision coverage?
  • Am I getting all the discounts available?
  • Can I afford low physical damage deductibles?
  • If my pet gets injured in an accident are they covered?

If it’s difficult to answer those questions, you may need to chat with an agent. To find lower rates from a local agent, take a second and complete this form. It is quick, free and you can get the answers you need.

Information about specific coverages

Having a good grasp of your policy can help you determine the best coverages for your vehicles. The terms used in a policy can be difficult to understand and nobody wants to actually read their policy.

Coverage for collisions

This coverage covers damage to your Sierra 2500 resulting from colliding with another car or object. You first must pay a deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.

Collision coverage protects against claims like backing into a parked car, colliding with a tree, rolling your car, hitting a mailbox and crashing into a building. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider removing coverage from lower value vehicles. You can also increase the deductible to save money on collision insurance.

Medical payments coverage and PIP

Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance provide coverage for short-term medical expenses like doctor visits, pain medications and rehabilitation expenses. They are used in conjunction with a health insurance program or if you are not covered by health insurance. Medical payments and PIP cover not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants and also covers if you are hit as a while walking down the street. Personal Injury Protection is not available in all states but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage

Liability car insurance

Liability coverage provides protection from injuries or damage you cause to other people or property in an accident. It protects YOU against claims from other people. It does not cover your injuries or vehicle damage.

Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. Your policy might show policy limits of 25/50/25 which stand for a limit of $25,000 per injured person, a per accident bodily injury limit of $50,000, and property damage coverage for $25,000. Some companies may use a combined limit that pays claims from the same limit with no separate limits for injury or property damage.

Liability coverage pays for things like bail bonds, loss of income and medical services. How much liability coverage do you need? That is a personal decision, but consider buying as large an amount as possible.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage

This coverage gives you protection from other drivers when they either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. Covered claims include medical payments for you and your occupants as well as damage to your GMC Sierra 2500.

Due to the fact that many drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage should not be overlooked. Most of the time the UM/UIM limits are similar to your liability insurance amounts.

Comprehensive coverage

Comprehensive insurance pays to fix your vehicle from damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You first must pay your deductible then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive coverage protects against claims like theft, hitting a deer, vandalism, hail damage and damage from getting keyed. The most your insurance company will pay is the actual cash value, so if the vehicle’s value is low consider dropping full coverage.

Nice post. I’m from Warwick, Rhode Island. Went online for free insurance quotes for a 1996 GMC Sierra 2500. Ended up at about $90 savings annually. Went with Allstate. Even increased coverage a bit. Not sure if rates are cheaper online or through an agent. I think I’ll get rid of full coverage next time.

If you don’t have tickets and are close to Colorado Springs, Colorado, check out GEICO. They seem to be cheaper. Moved home policy as well. I recommend comparing lots of rates. I don’t insure for physical damage though.

Not sure what I should be paying. Live in the southern part of Buffalo, New York. Received rates from Auto-Owners, Sentry, and a few others for my GMC and saved $103 a year. Was with Sentry. I have a couple other vehicles on the policy. Get lots of quotes to find the best rate.

If you’re a decent driver and are close to Kailua, Hawaii, check out 21st Century. You might save some money. Left Esurance to switch. I recommend comparing lots of rates.
