View 1996 GMC Sonoma Insurance Rates

Did you come to the realization that you have high-priced insurance coverage? It’s a common feeling and many drivers have buyer’s remorse.

Many insurers compete for your business, so it’s not easy to compare every company to find the lowest price

How to find low cost auto insurance

There are a lot of ways you can shop for auto insurance but some are easier and takes less work. You can waste a lot of time discussing policy coverages with insurance agencies in your area, or you can utilize the internet to get prices fast.

All the larger companies enroll in a system that allows shoppers to enter their coverage request one time, and each participating company then returns a price quote determined by their information. This prevents consumers from doing quote requests for every auto insurance company.

To enter your information into the quoting system, click to open in new window.

The single downside to doing it this way is you cannot specify which insurance companies to receive prices from. If you wish to select specific insurance companies to request quotes from, we have assembled a list of the cheapest auto insurance companies in your area. Click to view list.

Take whichever approach you prefer, but be sure you’re using the same coverage data for each price quote. If you use different coverage information it will be impossible to find the best deal for your GMC Sonoma. Just a small difference in limits may cause a big price difference. And when quoting auto insurance, remember that getting more free quotes provides better odds of finding the best offered rates. Not every company provides price estimates online, so you should also compare price estimates from them as well.

Which is the best car insurance?

When it comes to choosing the best car insurance coverage, there isn’t really a best way to insure your cars. Every insured’s situation is different and a cookie cutter policy won’t apply. Here are some questions about coverages that might point out whether you would benefit from an agent’s advice.

  • Can I rent a car in Mexico?
  • Should I buy additional glass protection?
  • Is a new car covered when I drive it off the dealer lot?
  • Am I covered if I hit my neighbor’s mailbox?
  • What are the best liability limits?
  • Do I need replacement cost coverage?
  • Do I need higher collision deductibles?

If it’s difficult to answer those questions but one or more may apply to you, you might consider talking to a licensed agent. If you don’t have a local agent, fill out this quick form or you can also visit this page to select a carrier

The coverage is in the details

Learning about specific coverages of a insurance policy helps when choosing which coverages you need and proper limits and deductibles. Policy terminology can be confusing and reading a policy is terribly boring. Shown next are typical coverage types found on most insurance policies.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage

This protects you and your vehicle’s occupants from other drivers when they either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. It can pay for medical payments for you and your occupants as well as your vehicle’s damage.

Since many drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, their limits can quickly be used up. So UM/UIM coverage is a good idea. Usually these limits are set the same as your liablity limits.

Collision coverage

This will pay to fix damage to your Sonoma from colliding with a stationary object or other vehicle. A deductible applies then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.

Collision coverage protects against claims like crashing into a ditch, crashing into a building, driving through your garage door and hitting a parking meter. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so you might think about dropping it from lower value vehicles. It’s also possible to increase the deductible to save money on collision insurance.

Medical payments coverage and PIP

Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance provide coverage for immediate expenses such as pain medications, nursing services, surgery, X-ray expenses and EMT expenses. They are often used in conjunction with a health insurance plan or if you do not have health coverage. It covers all vehicle occupants and will also cover any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal Injury Protection is not an option in every state and may carry a deductible

Auto liability insurance

Liability insurance can cover damages or injuries you inflict on other people or property. It protects you against other people’s claims, and does not provide coverage for damage to your own property or vehicle.

Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. Your policy might show limits of 25/50/25 that translate to $25,000 bodily injury coverage, a limit of $50,000 in injury protection per accident, and property damage coverage for $25,000. Some companies may use a combined single limit or CSL which combines the three limits into one amount and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.

Liability coverage pays for claims such as funeral expenses, medical services and attorney fees. How much liability coverage do you need? That is up to you, but you should buy as high a limit as you can afford.

Comprehensive coverage

Comprehensive insurance coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You first have to pay a deductible then your comprehensive coverage will pay.

Comprehensive coverage pays for claims like theft, falling objects, hitting a deer and a tree branch falling on your vehicle. The highest amount you’ll receive from a claim is the market value of your vehicle, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value it’s not worth carrying full coverage.

Corporate greed I’m telling you. Checking in from Provo, UT. Got quotes from Travelers, AAA, Liberty Mutual, and MetLife for my GMC and saved $72 a year. Good multi-policy discounts. It never hurts to quote around. I’m thinking about dropping full coverage though.

I found pretty cheap rate quotes for a 1996 GMC Sonoma in Chicago, IL. Ended up at darn near $120 every six months with American Family. I have several vehicles insured with them. Not worth enough to pay for comprehensive and collision.

If you have a good history and live around New York City, NY, check out Allstate. They seem to be cheaper. You can get a rate quote online. Full coverage costs too much.
