Are you drained from scraping nickels together to keep your car insured? You’re in the same situation as millions of other drivers.
Due to the fact that there are so many choices of insurance companies, it can be impossible to find the right insurance provider.
Consumers should take time to shop coverage around before your next renewal since insurance prices fluctuate regularly. Just because you found the best rates on Suburban insurance at your last renewal other companies may now be cheaper. Forget all the misinformation about insurance because I’m going to let you in on the secrets to how to use the internet to save money, get proper deductibles and limits, all at the lowest rate.
Companies offering auto insurance do not advertise every discount in a way that’s easy to find, so here is a list some of the more common and also the more inconspicuous credits available to you.
Just know that most discounts do not apply to the entire cost. Most only cut individual premiums such as comp or med pay. Just because you may think all those discounts means the company will pay you, you won’t be that lucky.

When choosing proper insurance coverage for your vehicles, there really is not a “perfect” insurance plan. Everyone’s situation is unique so your insurance needs to address that. These are some specific questions may help highlight whether you would benefit from an agent’s advice.
If you can’t answer these questions, you may need to chat with a licensed agent. If you don’t have a local agent, take a second and complete this form or you can also visit this page to select a carrier
Companies like State Farm, Geico and Progressive regularly use ads in print and on television. They all say the same thing that drivers can save some big amount if you move your policy. Is it even possible that every company can offer drivers better rates? Here is the trick they use.
All the different companies have a preferred profile for the type of driver that will generate a profit. For instance, a preferred risk may need to be between 25 and 40, owns a home, and the vehicle is rated for pleasure use. Any new insured that meets those criteria will get low car insurance rates and as a result will probably save when switching.
Insureds who are not a match for the “perfect” profile will be charged higher rates which results in the customer not purchasing. Company advertisements say “people that switch” but not “all drivers who get quotes” can save as much as they claim. This is how insurance companies can confidently make those claims.
Because every company is different, it is so important to get insurance coverage quotes from several different companies. It’s just too difficult to predict which insurance coverage company will have the best premium rates.
Learning about specific coverages of your insurance policy can be of help when determining appropriate coverage and proper limits and deductibles. The terms used in a policy can be difficult to understand and even agents have difficulty translating policy wording. Shown next are the usual coverages available from insurance companies.
Your UM/UIM coverage protects you and your vehicle when other motorists either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. This coverage pays for injuries to you and your family and damage to your 1996 GMC Suburban.
Because many people carry very low liability coverage limits, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage should not be overlooked. Normally the UM/UIM limits are identical to your policy’s liability coverage.
This pays for damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first must pay your deductible and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive coverage protects against claims like vandalism, hitting a deer and falling objects. The highest amount your insurance company will pay is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle is not worth much consider removing comprehensive coverage.
Liability insurance can cover damages or injuries you inflict on a person or their property by causing an accident. It protects you from legal claims by others. Liability doesn’t cover damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.
Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. You might see limits of 100/300/100 which means $100,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a limit of $300,000 in injury protection per accident, and a total limit of $100,000 for damage to vehicles and property. Another option is one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which combines the three limits into one amount and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.
Liability coverage protects against claims like medical expenses, medical services, bail bonds, legal defense fees and loss of income. How much liability should you purchase? That is your choice, but buy as much as you can afford.
Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance provide coverage for short-term medical expenses for things like dental work, X-ray expenses and surgery. They are utilized in addition to your health insurance policy or if you are not covered by health insurance. They cover not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants as well as being hit by a car walking across the street. PIP coverage is not an option in every state but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage
Collision insurance will pay to fix damage to your Suburban resulting from colliding with another vehicle or an object, but not an animal. You have to pay a deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision insurance covers things such as colliding with a tree, crashing into a ditch, driving through your garage door, damaging your car on a curb and rolling your car. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from vehicles that are 8 years or older. It’s also possible to bump up the deductible to bring the cost down.
In this article, we covered some good ideas how you can reduce 1996 GMC Suburban insurance car insurance rates online. The key concept to understand is the more providers you compare, the higher your chance of finding cheaper insurance coverage. You may be surprised to find that the lowest priced auto insurance comes from some of the lesser-known companies. These companies may have significantly lower premium rates on certain market segments than the large multi-state companies such as Progressive or Geico.
As you restructure your insurance plan, never buy lower coverage limits just to save a few bucks. Too many times, an insured cut uninsured motorist or liability limits only to find out that it was a big error on their part. Your focus should be to buy the best coverage you can find at the best cost, not the least amount of coverage.

Mine is so expensive. I live on the north side of Indianapolis, IN. Checked online prices for a 1996 GMC Suburban. Ended up at about $90 savings annually. Went with Progressive. I get a discount for insuring multiple vehicles. Hardly afford to drive anymore.

Nice info. I’m in Rochester, NY. Compared quite a few companies. Saved right around $20 a month. State Farm was the cheapest option for me. Was with GEICO. I don’t insure for physical damage though.

Cheap is not always the best policy. I’m in the south part of Fargo, ND. Received rates from USAA, Auto-Owners, The General, and Mercury for my GMC and am saving around $70 a year. Was with Encompass. Switched homeowners coverage too. Just waiting to see how claims go. I think I’ll get rid of full coverage next time.

Anyone find cheap rates around Evansville, IN?

Affordable car insurance is a myth. I’m in the suburbs of Green Bay, WI. Compared rates from a lot of places. Saved about $30 a month. Allstate was the cheapest for me. Book value doesn’t justify full coverage anymore.

I got a good deal I think. Live in the western part of Seattle, WA. Quoted with American Family, Nationwide, and Western Auto Insurance for my 1996 GMC Suburban and saved just over $90 a year. Thankfully I’m not a high risk driver. :P

It all costs too much. From Columbus, OH. I quoted with Amica, Eastwood, and Nationwide for my GMC and cut my rates about $60 a year. Liability only on my Suburban.

Thanks for putting this site together. Got a quote with MetLife for my GMC and saved about $80 a year. Might find lower rates online.

If you have a good history and are close to Biloxi, MS, check out Progressive. They seem to be cheaper. Thankfully I have a good driving record.
