Are you kicking yourself for buying high-priced auto insurance? Don’t feel bad because there are many consumers feeling the pinch from expensive auto insurance.
Lots of insurers contend for your insurance dollar, so it can be very hard to choose a insurer to get the best rate
It’s important to get comparison quotes yearly because insurance rates are adjusted regularly by insurance companies. If you had the lowest rate for Silhouette coverage last year you can probably find a better price now. Forget anything you know (or think you know) about auto insurance because you’re going to get a crash course in the easiest way to reduce your cost while increasing coverage.
The fastest way that we advise to compare rates is to know the trick auto insurance companies actually pay money for the chance to provide you with a free rate quote. All you need to do is provide a small amount of information including your credit rating estimate, how you use your vehicles, if it has an anti-theft system, and how much education you have. That rating data is sent automatically to multiple different insurance companies and they return cost estimate immediately.
Companies don’t necessarily list all their discounts in an easy-to-find place, so the list below contains a few of the more well known in addition to some of the lesser obvious credits that you can use to lower your rates.
Remember that many deductions do not apply the the whole policy. A few only apply to the price of certain insurance coverages like liability and collision coverage. So even though they make it sound like all the discounts add up to a free policy, insurance companies wouldn’t stay in business. Any qualifying discounts will positively reduce the amount you have to pay.
A few popular companies and a selection of discounts are shown below.
When comparing rates, check with every insurance company which discounts they offer. Some discounts listed above may not be offered in every state.
When choosing adequate coverage for your personal vehicles, there isn’t really a perfect coverage plan. Everyone’s situation is a little different so this has to be addressed. For example, these questions could help you determine whether you would benefit from an agent’s advice.
If it’s difficult to answer those questions but you think they might apply to your situation then you might want to talk to a licensed agent. If you don’t have a local agent, take a second and complete this form or you can also visit this page to select a carrier
Having a good grasp of your policy can help you determine the best coverages at the best deductibles and correct limits. The terms used in a policy can be confusing and coverage can change by endorsement. Listed below are typical coverages found on most auto insurance policies.
Comprehensive coverages – Comprehensive insurance coverage pays for damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You first must pay your deductible and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive coverage protects against things such as a tree branch falling on your vehicle, hail damage, falling objects and theft. The highest amount your auto insurance company will pay is the actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible consider dropping full coverage.
Collision coverage – This coverage pays for damage to your Silhouette from colliding with an object or car. You first must pay a deductible then your collision coverage will kick in.
Collision can pay for claims like crashing into a building, sustaining damage from a pot hole, backing into a parked car and sideswiping another vehicle. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so you might think about dropping it from older vehicles. You can also increase the deductible to bring the cost down.
Uninsured and underinsured coverage – Your UM/UIM coverage provides protection when other motorists are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. Covered losses include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and also any damage incurred to your Oldsmobile Silhouette.
Because many people only carry the minimum required liability limits, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. So UM/UIM coverage is very important.
Coverage for medical payments – Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance provide coverage for bills for hospital visits, funeral costs, doctor visits and surgery. They can be used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance policy or if you do not have health coverage. Coverage applies to both the driver and occupants as well as being hit by a car walking across the street. PIP is only offered in select states and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
Liability insurance – This coverage will cover injuries or damage you cause to people or other property. This insurance protects YOU from claims by other people. It does not cover damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have values of 100/300/100 which stand for a limit of $100,000 per injured person, a total of $300,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and $100,000 of coverage for damaged propery.
Liability coverage protects against claims like repair costs for stationary objects, structural damage, bail bonds and pain and suffering. How much coverage you buy is up to you, but consider buying as much as you can afford.

Will Allstate cancel my policy for a liability claim?

For me, GEICO was by far the cheapest in Great Falls, MT.

Not sure what I should be paying. I’m in the north part of Atlanta, GA. I quoted with Allstate, Eastwood, and Liberty Mutual for my 1996 Oldsmobile Silhouette and I think I saved about $20 each month. A clean driving record helps. I recommend comparing lots of rates. I’m thinking about dropping full coverage though.

All companies are crooks. I’m in Rapid City, SD. I got free prices from Progressive, AIG Insurance, Encompass, and Hartford for my 1996 Oldsmobile Silhouette and am saving around $100 a year. Just go online and compare their rates. I dropped full coverage awhile back.

Hope my rates come down. I’m in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA. I got free quotes with AAA, Mercury, and Western Auto Insurance for my Oldsmobile and saved $74 a year. My Oldsmobile doesn’t have full coverage.

In Providence, Rhode Island try Allstate or Progressive. Both had decent prices.

This is too expensive. I’m in the west part of New York City, NY. Quoted prices online for a 1996 Oldsmobile Silhouette. Ended up at about $110 savings annually. Went with State Farm. Was with Mercury. I recommend comparing lots of rates.

What are minimum liability limits required in California?

If you have a good history and live around Minneapolis, MN, check out 21st Century. They seem to be cheaper. Insured with Hartford before. It’s too old for full coverage.

I live in Bellevue, NE. I quoted with AIG Insurance, Mercury, and a few others for my Silhouette and saved just over $90 a year. Thankfully I have a good driving record.

I was with Liberty Mutual last year but switched to Allstate. Located in North Charleston, SC. Insured with The General before.
