Being forced to pay for high-priced auto insurance premiums can diminish your savings account and possibly require you to analyze your spending habits. Doing a price comparison can be a smart way to lower your monthly bill.
Multiple car insurance companies compete for your hard-earned dollar, so it’s not easy to compare every insurance company and uncover the absolute best price available.
Many insurance companies such as Geico, State Farm and Progressive allow consumers to get insurance quotes from their websites. Doing online price comparisons can be done by anyone because it’s just a matter of typing in into the form. Upon sending the form, their rating system obtains information on your driving record and credit history and returns pricing information. Online price estimates makes it simple to compare prices but the time required to go to many different websites and type in the same information can get tiresome after awhile. But it’s also necessary to compare as many rates as possible if you want to get the lowest auto insurance rates.
The easy way to compare rates
The easiest way to locate the lowest prices utilizes a single form that obtains quotes from several different companies. It’s a real time-saver, eliminates form submissions, and makes online shopping much simpler. After sending your information, it is quoted and you can select any or none of the quotes returned. If one or more price quotes are lower than your current rates, you can simply submit the application and purchase coverage. The entire process takes less than 15 minutes and may result in a nice savings.
To compare pricing, click here and enter your information. If you currently have coverage, we recommend you duplicate the coverages as close as possible to your current policy. Doing this guarantees you will have a fair comparison based on similar coverages.
Car insurance can cost a lot, but there may be some discounts that could drop your premiums quite a bit. Some of these disounts will be visible when you complete an application, but a few must be specifically requested prior to getting the savings. If you do not double check each discount you qualify for, you may be paying too high a price.
Just know that most discount credits are not given to all coverage premiums. Most cut the cost of specific coverages such as comprehensive or collision. So even though you would think you could get a free auto insurance policy, you aren’t that lucky.
Popular auto insurance companies and some of the premium reductions they offer can be found below.
Check with all companies you are considering to apply every possible discount. Some discounts listed above may not apply to policyholders in your area. To see companies who offer online auto insurance quotes, click here.
When it comes to buying coverage, there really is not a one size fits all plan. Everyone’s needs are different so your insurance should reflect that For instance, these questions may help you determine if you could use an agent’s help.

Having a good grasp of a car insurance policy aids in choosing the best coverages and the correct deductibles and limits. The terms used in a policy can be confusing and coverage can change by endorsement. Below you’ll find typical coverages offered by car insurance companies.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage
This provides protection when the “other guys” are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. Covered losses include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and damage to your Chevy C/K 2500 Series.
Because many people have only the minimum liability required by law, their limits can quickly be used up. So UM/UIM coverage is a good idea.
Medical payments coverage and PIP
Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance kick in for bills for things like nursing services, EMT expenses, X-ray expenses and funeral costs. They are utilized in addition to your health insurance plan or if you are not covered by health insurance. Coverage applies to all vehicle occupants and also covers any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal Injury Protection is only offered in select states and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay
Comprehensive coverage
Comprehensive insurance coverage will pay to fix damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. A deductible will apply then your comprehensive coverage will pay.
Comprehensive coverage protects against things such as falling objects, hail damage, a tree branch falling on your vehicle and theft. The most a car insurance company will pay at claim time is the actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Liability insurance
This coverage protects you from injuries or damage you cause to a person or their property that is your fault. This insurance protects YOU from legal claims by others, and doesn’t cover damage to your own property or vehicle.
It consists of three limits, bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. Your policy might show limits of 50/100/50 that translate to $50,000 bodily injury coverage, $100,000 for the entire accident, and a total limit of $50,000 for damage to vehicles and property.
Liability coverage protects against things like emergency aid, loss of income, attorney fees and repair costs for stationary objects. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is up to you, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase higher limits if possible.
Collision insurance
Collision insurance pays to fix your vehicle from damage caused by collision with an object or car. A deductible applies then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision coverage protects against claims like crashing into a ditch, rolling your car, sideswiping another vehicle, scraping a guard rail and crashing into a building. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider dropping it from lower value vehicles. Another option is to bump up the deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
As you prepare to switch companies, it’s not a good idea to skimp on critical coverages to save a buck or two. In too many instances, an insured cut comprehensive coverage or liability limits and discovered at claim time that they should have had better coverage. The ultimate goal is to buy the best coverage you can find at the lowest possible cost while still protecting your assets.
