Looking for better insurance rates for your GMC Sierra 2500? Having to pay for pricey insurance can eat up your savings account and force you to make tough financial choices. Comparing cost estimates can save money and help to make sure you’re not throwing money away.
Due to the abundance of choices, it’s difficult to locate the most affordable insurance provider.
Shopping for lower insurance coverage rates can take hours if you don’t know the best way to get rate quotes. You could waste a few hours talking to agents in your area, or you can stay home and use online quoting to accomplish the same thing much quicker.
Many insurance companies belong to a marketplace that allows shoppers to only type in their quote data once, and every company returns a rated price based on that data. This eliminates the need for quote forms to each company.

The only downside to pricing coverage this way is you can’t choose the companies you want pricing from. So if you prefer to choose specific providers to compare rates, we have assembled a list of companies who write insurance coverage in your area. Click here to view list.
Compare rates however you want, just make sure you are using equivalent quote data on every price quote you get. If the quotes have differing limits it will be very difficult to make a fair comparison for your GMC Sierra 2500.
Not too many consumers would say insurance coverage is affordable, but you might be missing out on some discounts that many people don’t even know exist. Many of these discounts will be applied automatically at the time you complete a quote, but once in a while a discount must be asked for before they will apply. If you check and find you aren’t receiving every discount you deserve, you are paying more than you should be.
Don’t be surprised that most of the big mark downs will not be given to the entire cost. A few only apply to specific coverage prices like comprehensive or collision. Just because you may think you can get free auto insurance, insurance companies wouldn’t stay in business. Any amount of discount will lower your insurance coverage premiums.

Having a good grasp of insurance can be of help when determining which coverages you need and the correct deductibles and limits. The coverage terms in a policy can be impossible to understand and nobody wants to actually read their policy. Below you’ll find typical coverages found on the average insurance policy.
Collision insurance
This pays for damage to your Sierra 2500 resulting from colliding with another car or object. You have to pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the remainder.
Collision coverage protects against claims like driving through your garage door, colliding with a tree and crashing into a ditch. This coverage can be expensive, so consider removing coverage from older vehicles. You can also bump up the deductible to bring the cost down.
Comprehensive auto coverage
This coverage covers damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. A deductible will apply then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive insurance covers claims like damage from flooding, hitting a deer and hail damage. The maximum amount your insurance company will pay is the ACV or actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Liability auto insurance
Liability insurance protects you from injuries or damage you cause to other’s property or people. It protects YOU from legal claims by others. Liability doesn’t cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Liability coverage has three limits: per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. You might see liability limits of 25/50/25 which stand for a $25,000 limit per person for injuries, a per accident bodily injury limit of $50,000, and property damage coverage for $25,000. Some companies may use one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which provides one coverage limit with no separate limits for injury or property damage.
Liability coverage protects against things such as legal defense fees, repair bills for other people’s vehicles and bail bonds. How much liability should you purchase? That is your choice, but you should buy as high a limit as you can afford.
UM/UIM (Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist) coverage
This coverage protects you and your vehicle’s occupants from other motorists when they either have no liability insurance or not enough. This coverage pays for hospital bills for your injuries and damage to your 1997 GMC Sierra 2500.
Due to the fact that many drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, their limits can quickly be used up. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage should not be overlooked. Most of the time the UM/UIM limits are identical to your policy’s liability coverage.
Medical payments and PIP coverage
Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage kick in for immediate expenses such as surgery, doctor visits, nursing services, ambulance fees and pain medications. They can be used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if you do not have health coverage. Coverage applies to both the driver and occupants in addition to being hit by a car walking across the street. PIP coverage is only offered in select states and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay

Hope my rates come down. I live east of Portland, Maine. Received quotes from AAA, Safeco, and a few others for my 1997 GMC Sierra 2500 and I think I cut my rates about $20 each month. Moved home policy as well.

Anyone buy from American Family? I’m in Provo, Utah.

From northwest of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Got quotes with Amica, Nationwide, and a few others for my Sierra 2500 and saved just over $90 a year. Insured with USAA before. I get multi-vehicle and multi-policy discounts. Hardly afford to drive anymore.

I think I’m paying too much. Checking in from Pittsburgh, PA. Got car insurance quotes from Progressive, Auto-Owners, Encompass, and Hartford for my 1997 GMC Sierra 2500 and I think I saved around $20 each month. Was with Encompass. I have kids on my policy, too. I used their online quote form to compare rates.

In Biloxi, MS, State Farm auto insurance rates for my 1997 GMC Sierra 2500 were good. Left GEICO to switch. Thankfully I’m not a high risk driver. It never hurts to quote around.

Liked the article. I’m from Provo, UT. Received quotes from 21st Century, Esurance, and Hartford for my GMC and am saving around $80 a year. I get lower rates because of my clean driving record.

I got decent rates for a 1997 GMC Sierra 2500 in Los Angeles, California. Ended up at about $120 every six months with AIG Insurance. Left 21st Century to switch. Switched homeowners coverage too. Just waiting to see how claims go.

Not sure what I should be paying. Found cheapest coverage with Progressive for my Sierra 2500 and saved around $100 a year. Left American Family to switch. I’m a pretty good driver though. It’s too old for full coverage.
