Some companies don’t always list every discount they offer very clearly, so we took the time to find some of the best known in addition to some of the lesser obvious ways to save on insurance coverage.
As is typical with insurance, most of the big mark downs will not be given the the whole policy. The majority will only reduce the cost of specific coverages such as liability, collision or medical payments. Even though it may seem like you could get a free insurance coverage policy, that’s just not realistic.
A list of companies and some of their more popular discounts are outlined below.
Before buying, ask all the companies which discounts you qualify for. Depending on the company, some discounts might not apply in your area. If you would like to see a list of insurance coverage companies who offer free insurance coverage quotes, click here.

Learning about specific coverages of a insurance policy helps when choosing which coverages you need and the correct deductibles and limits. Policy terminology can be confusing and reading a policy is terribly boring. Shown next are the usual coverages found on the average insurance policy.
Collision coverages – Collision coverage pays for damage to your Oasis resulting from colliding with another car or object. You have to pay a deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision coverage pays for things like colliding with a tree, scraping a guard rail, hitting a parking meter, sideswiping another vehicle and hitting a mailbox. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so consider dropping it from vehicles that are 8 years or older. Drivers also have the option to raise the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.
Comprehensive protection – Comprehensive insurance coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. A deductible will apply and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive can pay for claims like fire damage, hail damage and damage from a tornado or hurricane. The maximum payout your insurance company will pay is the ACV or actual cash value, so if the vehicle’s value is low consider removing comprehensive coverage.
Liability car insurance – This provides protection from damages or injuries you inflict on other people or property that is your fault. It protects you against other people’s claims. It does not cover your own vehicle damage or injuries.
Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have liability limits of 25/50/25 which stand for a $25,000 limit per person for injuries, $50,000 for the entire accident, and a limit of $25,000 paid for damaged property. Another option is a combined limit which combines the three limits into one amount and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.
Liability insurance covers claims such as medical expenses, structural damage, attorney fees, legal defense fees and emergency aid. How much liability should you purchase? That is up to you, but buy as much as you can afford.
Uninsured or underinsured coverage – Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage provides protection when other motorists do not carry enough liability coverage. Covered claims include medical payments for you and your occupants as well as your vehicle’s damage.
Since many drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is important protection for you and your family. Normally these coverages are similar to your liability insurance amounts.
Medical expense coverage – Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP kick in for bills for things like hospital visits, ambulance fees, nursing services and rehabilitation expenses. They can be utilized in addition to your health insurance plan or if there is no health insurance coverage. Medical payments and PIP cover both the driver and occupants as well as if you are hit as a while walking down the street. Personal Injury Protection is not an option in every state but can be used in place of medical payments coverage
As you prepare to switch companies, never sacrifice coverage to reduce premiums. In many instances, someone dropped liability limits or collision coverage only to discover later that saving that couple of dollars actually costed them tens of thousands. Your strategy should be to get the best coverage possible at the best price, but don’t skip important coverages to save money.

Just my two cents. I’m in the south part of Rochester, Minnesota. I got free quotes from Nationwide, Esurance, State Farm, and Amica for my Oasis and am saving around $110 a year. Left AAA to switch. BTW speeding tickets are not good. Not sure about claim service. My Isuzu doesn’t have full coverage.

I’m in the north part of Columbus, OH. Quoted a bunch of companies. Saved about $30 a month. Allstate was the cheapest for me. Insured with Auto-Owners before. I get a discount for insuring multiple vehicles. I’m thinking about dropping full coverage though.
