Are you drained from being strong-armed to make your insurance payment? You are in the same boat as many other drivers. Insurance companies such as Allstate, Liberty Mutual and State Farm all claim big savings, bombarding you with ad campaigns and consumers find it hard to ignore the flashy ads and take the time to shop coverage around.
If you have insurance now or need a new policy, you can use this information to find better prices and possibly find even better coverage. Buying car insurance is easy if you know what you’re doing. Consumers just need to learn the proper methods to compare price quotes over the internet.
Multiple criteria are taken into consideration when premium rates are determined. Most are fairly basic like a motor vehicle report, although some other factors are more transparent like where you live and annual miles driven. An important part of buying insurance is that you know the factors that help determine the price you pay for auto insurance. When you understand what controls the rates you pay, this enables you to make decisions that could help you find lower premium levels.
Companies that sell car insurance don’t always advertise every discount very clearly, so we researched both the well known as well as the least known discounts that may be available.
As a footnote on discounts, most of the big mark downs will not be given to all coverage premiums. Most only reduce the cost of specific coverages such as comp or med pay. Even though it may seem like you could get a free insurance coverage policy, you’re out of luck.
A few of the larger companies and a partial list of their discounts are shown below.
Before buying, ask each company which discounts can lower your rates. Some discounts listed above might not be available to policyholders in your area.
When buying proper insurance coverage for your vehicles, there isn’t really a cookie cutter policy. Every situation is different and your policy should reflect that. These are some specific questions might point out whether you would benefit from an agent’s advice.
If you’re not sure about those questions but one or more may apply to you then you might want to talk to a licensed insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, simply complete this short form or you can go here for a list of companies in your area. It only takes a few minutes and you can get the answers you need.
Knowing the specifics of car insurance helps when choosing which coverages you need for your vehicles. Car insurance terms can be confusing and nobody wants to actually read their policy. These are the usual coverages found on the average car insurance policy.
Collision protection
Collision coverage will pay to fix damage to your Sentra resulting from a collision with a stationary object or other vehicle. You will need to pay your deductible then your collision coverage will kick in.
Collision coverage protects against claims such as colliding with a tree, sideswiping another vehicle, scraping a guard rail, crashing into a ditch and hitting a parking meter. This coverage can be expensive, so consider removing coverage from older vehicles. Another option is to choose a higher deductible to get cheaper collision coverage.
Med pay and Personal Injury Protection (PIP)
Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance reimburse you for immediate expenses for doctor visits, ambulance fees, hospital visits and surgery. The coverages can be used to fill the gap from your health insurance plan or if you are not covered by health insurance. They cover both the driver and occupants as well as if you are hit as a while walking down the street. Personal Injury Protection is only offered in select states but can be used in place of medical payments coverage
Comprehensive insurance
This coverage pays for damage that is not covered by collision coverage. A deductible will apply then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive can pay for claims like damage from flooding, damage from getting keyed, a tree branch falling on your vehicle, hitting a bird and a broken windshield. The maximum payout a car insurance company will pay at claim time is the market value of your vehicle, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Liability insurance
This coverage will cover damage or injury you incur to other’s property or people in an accident. It protects YOU from claims by other people. It does not cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. You commonly see values of 25/50/25 which means a limit of $25,000 per injured person, a limit of $50,000 in injury protection per accident, and a total limit of $25,000 for damage to vehicles and property.
Liability coverage protects against things like repair bills for other people’s vehicles, emergency aid and repair costs for stationary objects. How much liability coverage do you need? That is up to you, but buy as much as you can afford.
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM)
This coverage protects you and your vehicle when other motorists do not carry enough liability coverage. This coverage pays for injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants and damage to your 1998 Nissan Sentra.
Because many people have only the minimum liability required by law, their limits can quickly be used up. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage should not be overlooked.
You just read a lot of ways to reduce 1998 Nissan Sentra insurance prices online. The key thing to remember is the more rate quotes you have, the higher the chance of saving money. You may even discover the most savings is with a lesser-known regional company. They often have lower rates on specific markets as compared to the big name companies such as Allstate, Geico and Progressive.
When you buy insurance online, don’t be tempted to skimp on critical coverages to save a buck or two. There have been many cases where someone dropped physical damage coverage to discover at claim time that their decision to reduce coverage ended up costing them more. Your goal should be to buy a smart amount of coverage at an affordable rate, but don’t skip important coverages to save money.
