As soon as the form is sent, it gets priced and you are able to buy any of the resulting price quotes.

Tailor your car insurance coverage to you

When it comes to choosing the best car insurance coverage for your vehicles, there is no perfect coverage plan. Every situation is different.

These are some specific questions may help you determine if your situation could use an agent’s help.

  • What discounts do I qualify for?
  • How high should my uninsured/underinsured coverage be in my state?
  • I have good health insurance, so how much medical payments coverage do I need?
  • Why do I need rental car insurance?
  • Am I covered when using my vehicle for business?
  • Is my teenager covered with friends in the car?
  • Can my babysitter drive my car?

If it’s difficult to answer those questions but you think they might apply to your situation then you might want to talk to a licensed insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, simply complete this short form. It’s fast, free and you can get the answers you need.

Coverage specifics

Having a good grasp of your car insurance policy can help you determine the best coverages and proper limits and deductibles. The terms used in a policy can be difficult to understand and nobody wants to actually read their policy.

UM/UIM Coverage

Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage provides protection from other motorists when they either have no liability insurance or not enough. It can pay for hospital bills for your injuries and damage to your 1998 Saturn S-Series.

Because many people have only the minimum liability required by law, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is very important. Usually the UM/UIM limits are similar to your liability insurance amounts.

Comprehensive or Other Than Collision

This pays to fix your vehicle from damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You need to pay your deductible first then your comprehensive coverage will pay.

Comprehensive can pay for things such as a broken windshield, vandalism, hitting a bird and hail damage. The most a car insurance company will pay at claim time is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle is not worth much consider dropping full coverage.

Medical costs insurance

Med pay and PIP coverage reimburse you for bills for things like X-ray expenses, pain medications, hospital visits and funeral costs. They are used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance policy or if there is no health insurance coverage. Medical payments and PIP cover all vehicle occupants in addition to getting struck while a pedestrian. Personal Injury Protection is not an option in every state and gives slightly broader coverage than med pay

Collision protection

This coverage covers damage to your S-Series caused by collision with a stationary object or other vehicle. You first must pay a deductible then your collision coverage will kick in.

Collision can pay for things like backing into a parked car, driving through your garage door and rolling your car. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so consider removing coverage from vehicles that are older. Drivers also have the option to choose a higher deductible to save money on collision insurance.

Liability auto insurance

Liability coverage will cover damage that occurs to other’s property or people in an accident. This coverage protects you from legal claims by others, and doesn’t cover your injuries or vehicle damage.

It consists of three limits, bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. Your policy might show liability limits of 50/100/50 which means a $50,000 limit per person for injuries, a limit of $100,000 in injury protection per accident, and a total limit of $50,000 for damage to vehicles and property. Another option is a combined single limit or CSL which provides one coverage limit without having the split limit caps.

Liability can pay for claims like pain and suffering, repair costs for stationary objects, funeral expenses and court costs. How much liability coverage do you need? That is a decision to put some thought into, but consider buying higher limits if possible.

Comments About 1998 Saturn S-Series Insurance

  1. Tammera Bowers

I think I’m paying too much. Proud to be from San Diego, CA. I quoted with 21st Century, American Family, Erie, and Hanover for my S-Series and saved $66 a year. I have a couple other vehicles on the policy. God forbid I actually have a claim. Not worth enough to pay for comprehensive and collision.

  2. Shanel Fletcher

Nice post. I live on the east side of Kansas City, Kansas. I quoted with Amica, MetLife, and Western Auto Insurance for my 1998 Saturn S-Series and saved $111 a year. Left AIG Insurance to switch. Even increased coverage a bit.

  3. Olene Browning

Any Progressive or Erie customers near Davenport, Iowa?

  4. Tonja Trevino

I can’t pay high rates. From a town just southwest of Newark, DE. Went online for free insurance quotes for a 1998 Saturn S-Series. Ended up at about $70 savings annually. Went with Progressive. Have an at-fault accident tho. I just quoted rates online. I only have liability coverage on it.

  5. Laverna Horton

Lots of good stuff here. I live west of Chicago, Illinois. Can’t remember who all I quoted but I ended up saving about $20 each month. Was with Mercury. Wish I didn’t have to insure at all.

  6. Shaunte Harvey

I’m looking for cheaper coverage. I live on the west side of New Orleans, Louisiana. I quoted with Hanover, Amica, Nationwide, and a couple others for my 1998 Saturn S-Series and saved $76 a year. Thankfully I’m not a high risk driver. I think I’ll get rid of full coverage next time.

  7. Kaitlin Robles

    What exactly does liability cover?

  8. Morton Peck

I switched to State Farm. Quoted good rates in Dover, DE. I think I’ll get rid of full coverage next time.

  9. Sona Kemp

I got a good deal I think. Lifelong resident of Biloxi, MS. Received quotes from Travelers, American Family, GMAC, and Sentry for my Saturn and I think I cut my rates about $30 each month. It never hurts to quote around. Book value doesn’t justify full coverage anymore.

  10. Delphine Holcomb

I’m in Kansas City, MO. Got quotes from State Farm, AAA, and Erie for my S-Series and I think I cut my rates about $20 each month. Insured with Hartford before. Just liability coverage since it’s getting old.

  11. Brianna Chaney

Thought I’d throw in my experience. I’m just south of Frederick, MD. Received rates from Hanover, Amica, Nationwide, and a couple others for my S-Series and I think I cut my rates about $30 each month. My S-Series doesn’t have full coverage.

  12. Antone Cox

Well-written and thought out article. I’m in Mesa, AZ. Quoted a bunch of companies. Saved roughly $30 a month. Progressive was the best choice for me. Left 21st Century to switch. It’s still not cheap enough.

  13. Lolita Cantrell

All companies are crooks. Found cheapest coverage with Erie for my Saturn and saved about $110 a year. Full coverage costs too much.
