Nobody is fond of buying auto insurance, especially knowing the cost is way too high.
You have so many car insurance companies to purchase coverage from, and though it is a good thing to have multiple companies, it can be more challenging to compare rates.
There are a lot of ways to compare insurance coverage prices but one way is more efficient than others. You can spend your afternoon talking about coverages with local insurance agents in your area, or you can stay home and use online quoting to accomplish the same thing much quicker.
Most of the best insurance companies belong to a marketplace where prospective buyers complete one form, and each company returns a competitive quote based on that data. This prevents consumers from doing form submissions to each company.

The only downside to comparing rates this way is you don’t know exactly the insurers you want to price. If you would rather choose from a list of companies to receive pricing from, we have a listing of low cost insurance coverage companies in your area. Click to view list.
Take whichever approach you prefer, but make absolute certain that you use the exact same coverage limits for each quote you get. If you use different deductibles it will be next to impossible to decipher which rate is best. Just a small difference in limits could throw off the whole comparison. Keep in mind that getting more free quotes helps increase your odds of locating the best price. Not every company does online price quotes, so it’s important to also get quotes from those companies as well.
The cost of insuring your cars can be expensive, but you can get discounts that you may not even know about. A few discounts will automatically apply when you get a quote, but some need to be inquired about prior to getting the savings.
Please keep in mind that most discount credits are not given to your bottom line cost. A few only apply to specific coverage prices like liability and collision coverage. Just because it seems like adding up those discounts means a free policy, you aren’t that lucky.
Insurance companies that may offer quotes with some of the discounts shown above include:
When getting free insurance quotes, it’s a good idea to every insurance company which discounts can lower your rates. Savings may not apply to policies everywhere. If you would like to choose from a list of insurers with significant discounts, click this link.
When it comes to choosing adequate coverage, there is no single plan that fits everyone. Coverage needs to be tailored to your specific needs so this has to be addressed. For instance, these questions may help highlight if your insurance needs might need professional guidance.
If you’re not sure about those questions but a few of them apply, then you may want to think about talking to a licensed agent. To find an agent in your area, simply complete this short form or you can also visit this page to select a carrier
Having a good grasp of your insurance policy can be of help when determining appropriate coverage at the best deductibles and correct limits. The terms used in a policy can be impossible to understand and coverage can change by endorsement. Shown next are typical coverages found on most insurance policies.
This protects you and your vehicle’s occupants when other motorists either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. Covered losses include medical payments for you and your occupants as well as your vehicle’s damage.
Due to the fact that many drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage should not be overlooked.
Comprehensive insurance coverage pays for damage caused by mother nature, theft, vandalism and other events. A deductible will apply and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive coverage pays for claims such as fire damage, hitting a bird and hitting a deer. The most a insurance company will pay at claim time is the actual cash value, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.
Liability insurance provides protection from damages or injuries you inflict on other people or property that is your fault. It protects you against claims from other people. It does not cover damage to your own property or vehicle.
Liability coverage has three limits: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. You commonly see values of 50/100/50 which stand for $50,000 bodily injury coverage, a total of $100,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and a total limit of $50,000 for damage to vehicles and property.
Liability coverage protects against things such as repair costs for stationary objects, medical services, funeral expenses, legal defense fees and emergency aid. How much liability should you purchase? That is up to you, but consider buying as much as you can afford.
Med pay and PIP coverage provide coverage for immediate expenses for funeral costs, hospital visits and EMT expenses. They are often used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance policy or if there is no health insurance coverage. It covers not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants in addition to any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal injury protection coverage is only offered in select states but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage
Collision insurance pays to fix your vehicle from damage resulting from colliding with another vehicle or an object, but not an animal. You will need to pay your deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision coverage protects against things such as sustaining damage from a pot hole, crashing into a building, hitting a mailbox, colliding with a tree and crashing into a ditch. This coverage can be expensive, so consider dropping it from vehicles that are older. Another option is to raise the deductible to bring the cost down.

Mine is so expensive. From San Antonio, Texas. I quoted with 21st Century, American Family, Encompass, and GMAC for my 1999 Cadillac Seville and cut my rates about $110 a year. Have an at-fault accident tho. You can get a rate quote online. I dropped full coverage awhile back.

IT’S ALL TOO EXPENSIVE! I live just to the south of Honolulu, HI. I don’t recall every quote but I ended up saving about $30 each month. Online quotes are the way to go. Not worth enough to pay for comprehensive and collision.

IT’S ALL TOO EXPENSIVE! From Boston, MA. I got free quotes from Allstate, Encompass, and The General for my Seville and saved $70 a year. Hopefully won’t need it. It’s only liability tho.
