Saving money on Driversinsurance coverage might be frustrating for people new to quoting coverage prices online. Drivers have so many agents and companies to choose from that it can be a big hassle to find the perfect company for you.
Lots of factors are considered when premium rates are determined. A few of the factors are predictable such as your driving record, but other factors are more transparent like where you live and annual miles driven.
Shopping for lower auto insurance rates is a ton of work if you don’t understand the easiest way. You could waste time talking about coverages with agents in your area, or you could use the internet to quickly compare rates.
Most major companies belong to an insurance system that allows shoppers to send in one quote, and every company returns a competitive quote based on the submitted data. This saves time by eliminating quote requests to each company. To compare rates using this form now click to open in new window.
One minor caviat to doing it this way is you are unable to specify which providers to get pricing from. If you prefer to choose specific insurance companies to request quotes from, we put together a list of auto insurance companies in your area. Click here to view list.
It doesn’t matter which method you choose, just be certain you are entering the same deductibles and coverage limits on every quote. If you use different limits and deductibles on each one it will be very difficult to determine the lowest rate for your Oldsmobile Aurora. Even a minor difference in coverage limits could throw off the whole comparison. And when quoting auto insurance, remember that comparing more rates from different companies will increase your chances of finding lower pricing. Not every company provides price estimates online, so you should also compare quotes from the smaller companies as well.
Car insurance can cost a lot, but there’s a good chance there are discounts that can dramatically reduce your bill. Many of these discounts will be applied automatically at quote time, but lesser-known reductions have to be specially asked for in order for you to get them.
A quick disclaimer, some credits don’t apply to the entire policy premium. Some only apply to the price of certain insurance coverages like medical payments or collision. Even though it appears all the discounts add up to a free policy, companies wouldn’t make money that way.

When choosing the right insurance coverage for your personal vehicles, there isn’t really a “perfect” insurance plan. Every insured’s situation is different.
For example, these questions may help you determine whether you might need an agent’s assistance.
If you can’t answer these questions but you think they might apply to your situation, you might consider talking to an agent. To find an agent in your area, complete this form.
Knowing the specifics of a insurance policy can help you determine appropriate coverage and the correct deductibles and limits. The terms used in a policy can be difficult to understand and nobody wants to actually read their policy.
Coverage for uninsured or underinsured drivers – Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage provides protection when other motorists do not carry enough liability coverage. Covered losses include injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants as well as damage to your 1999 Oldsmobile Aurora.
Due to the fact that many drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is a good idea.
Collision coverages – Collision coverage covers damage to your Aurora caused by collision with an object or car. You first must pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the remainder.
Collision can pay for claims such as driving through your garage door, rolling your car, hitting a mailbox, colliding with another moving vehicle and hitting a parking meter. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so consider removing coverage from lower value vehicles. Drivers also have the option to increase the deductible to bring the cost down.
Coverage for medical expenses – Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP kick in for immediate expenses like funeral costs, doctor visits, pain medications, ambulance fees and dental work. They are used to fill the gap from your health insurance program or if you are not covered by health insurance. They cover both the driver and occupants in addition to being hit by a car walking across the street. PIP is not available in all states and may carry a deductible
Comprehensive insurance – Comprehensive insurance coverage covers damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You need to pay your deductible first then your comprehensive coverage will pay.
Comprehensive insurance covers claims like a broken windshield, damage from flooding, falling objects and fire damage. The most you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the ACV or actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible consider dropping full coverage.
Liability car insurance – Liability coverage can cover damage that occurs to other people or property by causing an accident. This insurance protects YOU from claims by other people, and does not provide coverage for your injuries or vehicle damage.
It consists of three limits, per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. Your policy might show values of 50/100/50 which means a limit of $50,000 per injured person, a limit of $100,000 in injury protection per accident, and a total limit of $50,000 for damage to vehicles and property.
Liability coverage protects against things such as repair bills for other people’s vehicles, emergency aid, funeral expenses, court costs and repair costs for stationary objects. How much liability coverage do you need? That is your choice, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as large an amount as possible.
People switch companies for a variety of reasons including delays in responding to claim requests, denial of a claim, extreme rates for teen drivers or high prices. It doesn’t matter what your reason, finding a new insurance company can be less work than you think.
As you shop your coverage around, it’s a bad idea to buy less coverage just to save a little money. Too many times, someone dropped liability coverage limits and discovered at claim time that the few dollars in savings costed them thousands. Your goal is to find the BEST coverage at the best cost, but do not sacrifice coverage to save money.
Some insurance companies may not have the ability to get a quote online and many times these small insurance companies only sell coverage through local independent agencies. Lower-priced insurance can be bought from both online companies and with local insurance agents, so you should be comparing quotes from both so you have a total pricing picture.

Cheap is relative. Found cheapest coverage with Sentry for my Aurora and saved about $110 a year. Was with Amica. Even increased my liability limits. They were helpful in switching over. It’s only liability tho.
