Are you at wits end from being strong-armed to pay your car insurance bill each month? You are no different than many other consumers.
You have so many car insurance companies to purchase coverage from, and though it is a good thing to have a choice, it makes it harder to compare rates and cut insurance costs.
Smart consumers take time to compare premium rates at least once a year since insurance prices fluctuate regularly. Just because you had the lowest price on Savana Cargo coverage a few years ago you can probably find a lower rate today. Block out anything you think you know about car insurance because I’m going to teach you the best methods to remove unneeded coverages and save money.
Choosing the best insurance company for you is easy if you know what you’re doing. If you are paying for car insurance now, you should be able to lower your premiums substantially using these tips. But drivers do need to learn the methods companies use to market insurance on the web because it can help you find the best coverage.
There are several ways to compare insurance prices but there is one way that is less time-consuming than others. You could spend the better part of a day talking about coverages with insurance agencies in your area, or you could use online quotes to get rate comparisons in just a few minutes.
Most of the best insurance companies enroll in a system that allows shoppers to submit their information once, and each company can give them a price based on the submitted data. This prevents consumers from doing quote requests to every company.

The only downside to pricing coverage this way is you can’t choose which companies you want pricing from. If you wish to select from a list of companies to compare rates, we put together a list of the cheapest insurance companies in your area. Click here to view list.
You can use whichever method you prefer to find lower rates, just ensure you are comparing the exact same coverages on every quote you get. If you compare different deductibles it’s not possible to determine the lowest rate for your GMC Savana Cargo. Quoting even small variations in limits can mean a large discrepancy in price. And when price shopping your coverage, comparing a wide range of rates gives you a better chance of getting the best rates. Some insurance companies are not set up to provide prices over the internet, so it’s important to compare rates from them, too.
Companies offering auto insurance don’t list every discount they offer in a way that’s easy to find, so the following is a list of both the well known and the more hidden discounts you could be receiving when you buy auto insurance online.
One last thing about discounts, most of the big mark downs will not be given the the whole policy. Most only cut the cost of specific coverages such as liability and collision coverage. Even though the math looks like you could get a free car insurance policy, it doesn’t quite work that way.

When buying proper insurance coverage, there is no perfect coverage plan. Every situation is different so this has to be addressed. Here are some questions about coverages that might help in determining whether your personal situation will benefit from professional help.
If you don’t know the answers to these questions but one or more may apply to you, you might consider talking to an agent. If you don’t have a local agent, complete this form or click here for a list of car insurance companies in your area.
Many things are considered when you quote your car insurance policy. Some of the criteria are obvious such as traffic violations, although some other factors are not quite as obvious such as whether you are married or your financial responsibility. When buying auto insurance it’s important to understand some of the factors that aid in calculating auto insurance rates. When you know what positively or negatively influences your rates, this enables informed choices that will entitle you to better auto insurance rates.
The list below includes most of the major factors companies use to determine your rates.
Insurance coverage companies such as Allstate, Geico and Progressive endlessly run ads on TV and radio. All the ads seem to make the promise of big savings if you change your coverage to them. Is it even possible that every company can cost less than your current company? It’s all in the wording.
All companies have specific characteristics for the type of customer that earns them the highest profit. An example of a profitable insured may be between 30 and 50, carries high limits, and drives a vehicle with a low ISO rating. Someone who meets those qualifications will get a cheap rate quote and will probably cut their rates substantially.
People who do not match these criteria will see a more expensive rate and the customer not purchasing. The ads state “people who switch” not “everyone that quotes” save money. That is how companies can make the claims of big savings. That is why it’s extremely important to get auto insurance quotes as often as possible. It’s not possible to predict with any certainty which company will have the best prices for your profile.
Understanding the coverages of your policy can help you determine appropriate coverage and the correct deductibles and limits. The terms used in a policy can be ambiguous and coverage can change by endorsement. These are the usual coverages offered by insurance companies.
Liability insurance – Liability coverage will cover injuries or damage you cause to other people or property by causing an accident. It protects YOU against other people’s claims, and does not provide coverage for damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.
Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. Your policy might show policy limits of 100/300/100 which means a $100,000 limit per person for injuries, a total of $300,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and $100,000 of coverage for damaged propery.
Liability coverage pays for things like repair costs for stationary objects, bail bonds, pain and suffering, court costs and legal defense fees. How much liability coverage do you need? That is a personal decision, but buy as much as you can afford.
Comprehensive coverage (or Other than Collision) – Comprehensive insurance pays to fix your vehicle from damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first have to pay a deductible and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive can pay for things such as falling objects, vandalism and damage from a tornado or hurricane. The maximum payout your insurance company will pay is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle is not worth much it’s not worth carrying full coverage.
Collision coverages – Collision coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage caused by collision with an object or car. A deductible applies then your collision coverage will kick in.
Collision coverage protects against claims such as sideswiping another vehicle, crashing into a ditch, colliding with another moving vehicle, colliding with a tree and crashing into a building. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so consider removing coverage from vehicles that are older. Another option is to bump up the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.
Uninsured Motorist or Underinsured Motorist insurance – Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage gives you protection when the “other guys” either have no liability insurance or not enough. Covered losses include medical payments for you and your occupants as well as your vehicle’s damage.
Because many people carry very low liability coverage limits, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is important protection for you and your family.
Insurance for medical payments – Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and medical payments coverage kick in for bills like nursing services, hospital visits, rehabilitation expenses, chiropractic care and dental work. They can be used in conjunction with a health insurance plan or if you are not covered by health insurance. Medical payments and PIP cover both the driver and occupants and also covers any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal Injury Protection is not available in all states but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage
Budget-conscious 2002 GMC Savana Cargo insurance can be found on the web and with local insurance agents, and you need to price shop both to have the best selection. Some companies may not offer online rate quotes and these regional insurance providers work with local independent agents.
When shopping online for auto insurance, don’t be tempted to reduce needed coverages to save money. There are many occasions where an insured dropped collision coverage only to discover later that the savings was not a smart move. Your goal is to buy the best coverage you can find at the best price, not the least amount of coverage.

Progressive and Allstate were both pretty cheap in Bangor, ME.

Cheap is not always the best policy. I’m in Louisville, Kentucky. Got rates from Hartford, AAA, Sentry, and a couple others for my GMC and I think I saved about $30 each month. I increased coverages a little too. :) Just liability coverage since it’s getting old.

If you have a good history and are close to Aurora, Illinois, check out Progressive. I saved quite a bit. Left Allstate to switch. Teenage drivers are expensive! Are quotes cheaper online?

Mine is so expensive. I’m in Los Angeles, California. Quoted rates from AIG Insurance, Safeco, and USAA for my Savana Cargo and I’m now saving $13 a month.

Hope my car insurance gets cheaper. Located in Miami, FL. Went online for free insurance quotes for a 2002 GMC Savana Cargo. Ended up at about $90 savings annually. Went with GEICO. Was with 21st Century. I recommend comparing lots of rates.

If you have a good history and live around Madison, WI, check out State Farm. You might get cheaper rates. It’s only liability tho.

Does Georgia have minimum liability requirements?
