It’s important to do price comparisons every six months since insurance prices tend to go up over time. There is a lot of bad information regarding insurance coverage online, but I’m going to show you the best ways to put money back in your pocket.
If you have insurance now or need new coverage, you can use these techniques to shop for the lowest rates and possibly find even better coverage. This article will instruct you on how to effectively get price quotes. Consumers only need an understanding of the proper methods to shop on the web.
There are several ways you can shop for car insurance but there is one way that is easier and takes less work. You could spend the better part of a day talking about coverages with agents in your area, or you could use online quotes to get prices fast.
Many popular insurance companies take part in a program that allows shoppers to send in one quote, and at least one company returns a competitive quote based on that data. This eliminates the need for quote requests for every car insurance company.

One minor caviat to doing it this way is buyers cannot specifically choose the insurers to get pricing from. So if you want to choose individual companies to receive pricing from, we put together a list of the cheapest car insurance companies in your area. Click to view list.
You can choose any of those ways to find more affodable coverage, but try to keep the exact same coverages with every price quote. If each company quotes different values for each quote it will be very difficult to decipher which rate is best.
Companies don’t always list the complete list of policy discounts very well, so the list below details a few of the more well known in addition to some of the lesser obvious ways to save on insurance coverage. If you do not check that you are getting every discount you qualify for, you could be paying more than you need to.
A quick disclaimer, most credits do not apply to all coverage premiums. A few only apply to the price of certain insurance coverages like comprehensive or collision. So when it seems like all those discounts means the company will pay you, it just doesn’t work that way.
Companies and the discounts they provide are outlined below.
When getting free auto insurance quotes, it’s a good idea to each company which discounts can lower your rates. Savings may not apply to policyholders in every state. To see a list of insurance coverage companies that offer some of these discounts, click here to view.
When buying coverage, there isn’t really a perfect coverage plan. Coverage needs to be tailored to your specific needs.
For instance, these questions could help you determine if your insurance needs will benefit from professional help.
If you can’t answer these questions, then you may want to think about talking to an insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, fill out this quick form. It only takes a few minutes and may give you better protection.
Understanding the coverages of your policy aids in choosing which coverages you need and the correct deductibles and limits. The terms used in a policy can be difficult to understand and even agents have difficulty translating policy wording.
Protection from uninsured/underinsured drivers
This coverage gives you protection when the “other guys” either have no liability insurance or not enough. Covered claims include hospital bills for your injuries as well as your vehicle’s damage.
Since a lot of drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is important protection for you and your family.
Liability coverages
Liability insurance can cover damage that occurs to other people or property in an accident. It protects you against other people’s claims. Liability doesn’t cover your injuries or vehicle damage.
Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. As an example, you may have limits of 100/300/100 that means you have a limit of $100,000 per injured person, $300,000 for the entire accident, and property damage coverage for $100,000.
Liability coverage pays for claims like legal defense fees, loss of income and repair bills for other people’s vehicles. How much liability coverage do you need? That is up to you, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase higher limits if possible.
Collision coverage protection
Collision coverage covers damage to your Astro Cargo caused by collision with an object or car. You first must pay a deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision coverage pays for claims like scraping a guard rail, rolling your car, hitting a mailbox and sideswiping another vehicle. This coverage can be expensive, so consider dropping it from vehicles that are older. Drivers also have the option to choose a higher deductible to bring the cost down.
Comprehensive (Other than Collision)
Comprehensive insurance coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. A deductible will apply then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive coverage protects against things such as damage from flooding, rock chips in glass and hail damage. The maximum payout you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the ACV or actual cash value, so if the vehicle’s value is low consider removing comprehensive coverage.
Medical expense insurance
Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP pay for bills such as funeral costs, rehabilitation expenses, prosthetic devices and hospital visits. The coverages can be used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if you are not covered by health insurance. Medical payments and PIP cover you and your occupants as well as getting struck while a pedestrian. PIP is not an option in every state and may carry a deductible

If you have a good history and live in the vicinity of Lexington, KY, check out GEICO. You might save some money. Insured with Western Auto Insurance before. I only have liability coverage on it.

Just a quick comment on my experience. I’m in the suburbs of Overland Park, KS. Went online for free insurance quotes for a 2003 Chevrolet Astro Cargo. Ended up at about $80 savings annually. Went with 21st Century. Left GEICO to switch. Not sure if rates are cheaper online or through an agent. I’m thinking about dropping full coverage though.

I found pretty cheap rate quotes for a 2003 Chevrolet Astro Cargo in Great Falls, MT. Ended up at about $70 every six months with Amica. I even had a DUI years ago. Book value doesn’t justify full coverage anymore.
