Quote car insurance online

There are a lot of ways to shop for car insurance, but one way is less time-consuming than others. You could waste a few hours discussing policy coverages with agents in your area, or you could use online quoting to get rate comparisons in just a few minutes.

The majority of car insurance companies participate in an industry program where insurance shoppers only type in their quote data once, and each participating company can provide price quotes based on that data. This system prevents you from having to do quotation requests to every company.

Whichever way you use, be sure to compare apples-to-apples coverage limits and deductibles for every quote you compare. If you enter unequal deductibles or liability limits you can’t possibly make an equal comparison. Just slight variations in insurance coverages or limits may result in a large different in cost. And when price shopping your coverage, comparing a wide range of rates helps you find the best price. Some smaller insurers to not give prices over the internet, so it’s important to also get prices from them, too.

You may qualify for discounts

Companies that sell car insurance don’t necessarily list the complete list of policy discounts in an easy-to-find place, so the below list has some of the best known in addition to some of the lesser obvious credits available to you.

There’s no such thing as the perfect auto insurance policy

When it comes to choosing coverage, there really is not a “best” method to buy coverage. Everyone’s needs are different so your insurance should reflect that For instance, these questions could help you determine if your insurance needs would benefit from professional advice.

  • Should I have combined single limit or split liability limits?
  • How much underlying liability do I need for an umbrella policy?
  • Am I covered if I hit my neighbor’s mailbox?
  • Can I afford low physical damage deductibles?
  • What is roadside assistance coverage?
  • Is there coverage for injuries to my pets?
  • Do I have coverage when pulling a U-Haul trailer?
  • I have a DUI can I still get coverage?
  • When can I cancel my policy?

If you don’t know the answers to these questions but you think they might apply to your situation then you might want to talk to an insurance agent. To find lower rates from a local agent, complete this form or go to this page to view a list of companies.

Auto insurance 101

Learning about specific coverages of a auto insurance policy aids in choosing appropriate coverage at the best deductibles and correct limits. Policy terminology can be difficult to understand and nobody wants to actually read their policy. These are the normal coverages offered by auto insurance companies.

Comprehensive insurance

Comprehensive insurance pays to fix your vehicle from damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You need to pay your deductible first then your comprehensive coverage will pay.

Comprehensive can pay for things such as damage from a tornado or hurricane, a tree branch falling on your vehicle, damage from flooding and rock chips in glass. The maximum payout you’ll receive from a claim is the market value of your vehicle, so if the vehicle’s value is low it’s not worth carrying full coverage.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM)

Your UM/UIM coverage gives you protection when other motorists either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. Covered claims include injuries to you and your family and also any damage incurred to your Bentley Continental GT.

Since a lot of drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. So UM/UIM coverage is very important. Most of the time the UM/UIM limits are identical to your policy’s liability coverage.

Collision coverage protection

This covers damage to your Continental GT caused by collision with an object or car. You will need to pay your deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.

Collision coverage pays for claims such as driving through your garage door, hitting a parking meter, sideswiping another vehicle and hitting a mailbox. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so consider dropping it from lower value vehicles. Drivers also have the option to bump up the deductible to bring the cost down.

Coverage for liability

This coverage will cover damage that occurs to a person or their property. It protects you against claims from other people. It does not cover damage sustained by your vehicle in an accident.

Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have values of 100/300/100 which stand for $100,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a per accident bodily injury limit of $300,000, and a limit of $100,000 paid for damaged property. Occasionally you may see one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which combines the three limits into one amount without having the split limit caps.

Liability coverage pays for things such as pain and suffering, bail bonds, loss of income and medical expenses. How much coverage you buy is a personal decision, but buy as large an amount as possible.

Med pay and Personal Injury Protection (PIP)

Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP pay for expenses such as pain medications, surgery, ambulance fees, X-ray expenses and doctor visits. They can be used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance policy or if you are not covered by health insurance. Coverage applies to all vehicle occupants in addition to any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal injury protection coverage is not available in all states but can be used in place of medical payments coverage

Don’t throw your cash in the trash

Lower-priced insurance can be found from both online companies as well as from independent agents, so you need to quote auto insurance with both in order to have the best price selection to choose from. There are still a few companies who may not offer internet price quotes and usually these smaller providers provide coverage only through local independent agents.

When buying insurance coverage, don’t be tempted to buy poor coverage just to save money. There have been many cases where an insured cut uninsured motorist or liability limits to discover at claim time that the savings was not a smart move. Your objective should be to get the best coverage possible at the best price, not the least amount of coverage.
