Save on 2004 Chevrolet Classic Insurance Rates

Having to pay for expensive Chevrolet Classic insurance can draw down your monthly budget and force you to cut corners elsewhere. Drivers have many auto insurance companies to buy insurance from, and even though it’s nice to have a selection, it makes it harder to locate the cheapest rates.

It’s a good habit to compare rates at least once a year due to the fact that insurance prices change quite often. If you had the best rates for Classic coverage a few years ago you can probably find a better rate quote now. You can find a lot of information about auto insurance online, but I’m going to show you the easiest ways to lower your auto insurance bill.

Take advantage of these discounts

Companies offering auto insurance don’t always advertise the complete list of policy discounts in a way that’s easy to find, so the list below details some of the best known and also the more inconspicuous credits available to bring down your rates.

  • Senior Citizens – If you’re over the age of 55, you are able to get a small discount on rates for Classic coverage.
  • Service Members Pay Less – Being deployed in the military could qualify you for better prices.
  • Air Bags and Passive Restraints – Factory air bags or motorized seat belts may qualify for discounts up to 30%.
  • Claim Free – Insureds who avoid accidents and claims pay much less when compared to bad drivers.
  • Savings for New Vehicles – Adding a new car to your policy can be considerably cheaper since newer vehicles are generally safer.
  • Accident Forgiveness Coverage – but companies like Allstate and Geico will forgive one accident without raising rates if you are claim-free for a set time period.

Just know that some of the credits will not apply to the overall cost of the policy. Most only reduce the price of certain insurance coverages like physical damage coverage or medical payments. Just because it seems like adding up those discounts means a free policy, that’s just not realistic.

Popular auto insurance companies and a partial list of their discounts can be read below.

  • Progressive has savings for online signing, multi-vehicle, homeowner, good student, online quote discount, and multi-policy.
  • SAFECO has discounts for accident prevention training, homeowner, teen safety rewards, anti-lock brakes, and drive less.
  • American Family offers discounts for air bags, good driver, mySafetyValet, early bird, accident-free, defensive driver, and multi-vehicle.
  • MetLife policyholders can earn discounts including claim-free, good student, accident-free, good driver, and defensive driver.
  • Geico may include discounts for membership and employees, five-year accident-free, federal employee, daytime running lights, driver training, and anti-theft.
  • The Hartford discounts include driver training, bundle, air bag, good student, defensive driver, vehicle fuel type, and anti-theft.

Before buying, ask each insurance company which discounts can lower your rates. Some discounts listed above might not apply in your area. If you would like to see a list of companies that offer some of these discounts, click here.

Special considerations

When choosing adequate coverage for your vehicles, there isn’t really a cookie cutter policy. Everyone’s situation is a little different so your insurance needs to address that. These are some specific questions can aid in determining whether your personal situation could use an agent’s help.

  • Do I need PIP (personal injury protection) coverage in my state?
  • Should I sign the liability waiver when renting a car?
  • Can I pay claims out-of-pocket if I buy high deductibles?
  • Should I have combined single limit or split liability limits?
  • How can I force my company to pay a claim?
  • What is the minimum liability in my state?
  • Does coverage extend to my business vehicle?
  • What is medical payments coverage?

If you’re not sure about those questions but one or more may apply to you, you may need to chat with an agent. To find an agent in your area, take a second and complete this form or click here for a list of insurance coverage companies in your area. It’s fast, doesn’t cost anything and may give you better protection.

Insurance coverage considerations

Understanding the coverages of your insurance policy can help you determine the best coverages and the correct deductibles and limits. Policy terminology can be ambiguous and even agents have difficulty translating policy wording. Shown next are typical coverages found on most insurance policies.

Medical costs insurance

Med pay and PIP coverage kick in for expenses such as EMT expenses, rehabilitation expenses and doctor visits. They are used to cover expenses not covered by your health insurance program or if you are not covered by health insurance. It covers not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants and also covers if you are hit as a while walking down the street. PIP coverage is not available in all states but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage

Comprehensive or Other Than Collision

Comprehensive insurance coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage from a wide range of events other than collision. A deductible will apply and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive insurance covers claims like hitting a deer, damage from getting keyed and fire damage. The most you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the cash value of the vehicle, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible it’s not worth carrying full coverage.

Collision coverage protection

This coverage will pay to fix damage to your Classic resulting from a collision with another car or object. You will need to pay your deductible then your collision coverage will kick in.

Collision insurance covers things such as crashing into a building, colliding with another moving vehicle and driving through your garage door. This coverage can be expensive, so consider removing coverage from older vehicles. It’s also possible to raise the deductible to bring the cost down.

Liability auto insurance

This protects you from damage or injury you incur to people or other property by causing an accident. This insurance protects YOU against claims from other people. Liability doesn’t cover damage to your own property or vehicle.

Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. You commonly see policy limits of 25/50/25 which means a $25,000 limit per person for injuries, a total of $50,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and property damage coverage for $25,000. Another option is one number which is a combined single limit which limits claims to one amount without having the split limit caps.

Liability insurance covers things like attorney fees, legal defense fees, bail bonds and court costs. The amount of liability coverage you purchase is up to you, but you should buy higher limits if possible.

UM/UIM Coverage

Your UM/UIM coverage protects you and your vehicle’s occupants from other motorists when they are uninsured or don’t have enough coverage. This coverage pays for injuries to you and your family and also any damage incurred to your Chevy Classic.

Because many people only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is a good idea. Usually your uninsured/underinsured motorist coverages are set the same as your liablity limits.

Spend less. Save more.

We’ve covered a lot of ways to save on 2004 Chevy Classic insurance. The key thing to remember is the more companies you get rates for, the better your chances of lowering your rates. You may be surprised to find that the best prices are with a company that doesn’t do a lot of advertising. Regional companies may only write in your state and offer lower rates as compared to the big name companies such as Progressive and Geico.

Lower-priced auto insurance can be bought from both online companies and with local insurance agents, so you should compare both to have the best rate selection. A few companies do not offer online quoting and most of the time these smaller companies prefer to sell through local independent agents.

When searching for cheaper auto insurance quotes, don’t be tempted to buy lower coverage limits just to save a few bucks. There are too many instances where an accident victim reduced full coverage and discovered at claim time that the small savings ended up costing them much more. The aim is to buy enough coverage at the best possible price and still be able to protect your assets.
