Nobody that owns a car likes having to buy insurance coverage, especially knowing they could lower their rates if they shopped around. Big companies like State Farm, Progressive and Geico constantly bombard you with fancy advertisements and it is difficult to separate fact from fiction and find the best price available.
It’s a great practice to get comparison quotes before your next renewal because insurance coverage rates are usually higher with each renewal. Even if you got the lowest premium rates on XK-Series insurance a year ago you may be paying too much now. Ignore everything you know about insurance coverage because you’re going to get a crash course in the fastest and easiest way to save money, get proper coverage and the best rates.
If you are insured now or are looking for a new policy, you can use these techniques to shop for the lowest rates and possibly find even better coverage. Finding affordable coverage is easy if you know what you’re doing. Drivers only need an understanding of how to buy insurance coverage over the internet.
Performing a rate comparison can take time and effort if you don’t understand the most efficient way to do it. You can waste hours driving to insurance companies in your area, or you can stay home and use the web to get rates in a matter of minutes.
Most major companies belong to a marketplace where insurance shoppers enter their policy data once, and every company can provide price quotes determined by their information. This system prevents you from having to do quotation requests to each individual insurance coverage company. To compare pricing click here to start a free quote.
The single downside to comparing rates this way is that you can’t choose the providers you want pricing from. If you would rather choose specific insurance companies to compare rates, we have a page of companies who write insurance coverage in your area. Click here for list of insurance companies.
How you compare quotes is your choice, just make sure you are using equivalent quote data for each comparison quote. If you are comparing higher or lower deductibles you can’t possibly determine which rate is truly the best.
Some providers don’t necessarily list the entire discount list very clearly, so the list below details both the well known in addition to some of the lesser obvious credits available to bring down your rates.
Policy discounts save money, but many deductions do not apply to all coverage premiums. A few only apply to specific coverage prices like liability and collision coverage. So even though it sounds like you could get a free auto insurance policy, companies don’t profit that way.
A few companies who may offer most of the discounts above possibly include:
It’s a good idea to ask every prospective company to give you their best rates. Depending on the company, some discounts may not apply to policies in your state.
When buying auto insurance it’s important to understand the factors that aid in calculating your premiums. If you have some idea of what controls the rates you pay, this enables informed choices that can help you get big savings. Many factors are taken into consideration when premium rates are determined. Some of the criteria are obvious such as traffic violations, but others are not quite as obvious like your vehicle usage or your commute time.
When choosing the right insurance coverage, there isn’t really a perfect coverage plan. Coverage needs to be tailored to your specific needs so your insurance needs to address that. Here are some questions about coverages that might point out whether or not you might need an agent’s assistance.
If it’s difficult to answer those questions, you may need to chat with an insurance agent. To find an agent in your area, complete this form or go to this page to view a list of companies. It is quick, free and can provide invaluable advice.
Having a good grasp of a car insurance policy helps when choosing appropriate coverage and the correct deductibles and limits. Car insurance terms can be ambiguous and coverage can change by endorsement. Shown next are the normal coverages found on most car insurance policies.
Liability car insurance
Liability insurance provides protection from injuries or damage you cause to a person or their property. It protects YOU from claims by other people, and does not provide coverage for damage to your own property or vehicle.
Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury for each person, bodily injury for the entire accident, and a limit for property damage. Your policy might show values of 100/300/100 which stand for a limit of $100,000 per injured person, $300,000 for the entire accident, and a total limit of $100,000 for damage to vehicles and property. Occasionally you may see one limit called combined single limit (CSL) which limits claims to one amount and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.
Liability can pay for claims like medical services, structural damage, loss of income, funeral expenses and attorney fees. How much liability coverage do you need? That is up to you, but you should buy as much as you can afford.
Coverage for medical expenses
Coverage for medical payments and/or PIP provide coverage for immediate expenses such as EMT expenses, ambulance fees, hospital visits and surgery. They are used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. It covers you and your occupants as well as any family member struck as a pedestrian. PIP is not universally available but can be used in place of medical payments coverage
Comprehensive car insurance
This coverage will pay to fix damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You first have to pay a deductible and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive coverage pays for claims like a tree branch falling on your vehicle, hitting a deer, falling objects and vandalism. The maximum amount you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the actual cash value, so if it’s not worth much more than your deductible it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.
Collision protection
This coverage pays to fix your vehicle from damage from colliding with another car or object. You have to pay a deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.
Collision can pay for things like rolling your car, colliding with a tree, hitting a mailbox, sideswiping another vehicle and driving through your garage door. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider dropping it from vehicles that are older. Another option is to increase the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.
Coverage for uninsured or underinsured drivers
This coverage protects you and your vehicle’s occupants when the “other guys” either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. This coverage pays for hospital bills for your injuries and damage to your Jaguar XK-Series.
Since a lot of drivers carry very low liability coverage limits, their limits can quickly be used up. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage is important protection for you and your family. Most of the time these coverages are identical to your policy’s liability coverage.
When shopping online for auto insurance, it’s a bad idea to reduce coverage to reduce premium. There are too many instances where consumers will sacrifice comprehensive coverage or liability limits only to find out they didn’t have enough coverage. The ultimate goal is to find the BEST coverage at the best possible price and still be able to protect your assets.
Some insurance providers don’t offer internet price quotes and most of the time these smaller companies work with independent agents. Lower-priced 2008 Jaguar XK-Series insurance can be found both online and from local insurance agents, and you should be comparing both to have the best rate selection.
