Finding cheap insurance could be hard for drivers not familiar with buying insurance online. Drivers have so many different companies and agents to choose from that it can turn into hard work to find cheaper coverage rates.
It’s a good habit to compare rates every six months because prices are usually higher with each renewal. Just because you had the lowest rates on CX-9 coverage two years ago there may be better deals available now. Block out anything you think you know about insurance because you’re about to learn the fastest and easiest way to reduce your cost while improving coverage.
Performing a rate comparison can be challenging if you don’t understand the most efficient way to do it. You can spend countless hours talking to insurance companies in your area, or you can utilize the internet to get the quickest rates.
Most of the best insurance companies participate in an industry program where prospective buyers submit one quote, and each participating company returns a competitive quote based on the submitted data. This eliminates the need for quotation requests for each company you want a rate for. To find out what other companies charge click here (opens in new window).
The one downside to getting quotes like this is you don’t know exactly which providers you want to price. So if you want to choose from a list of companies to compare prices, we put together a list of companies who write auto insurance in your area. Click to view list.
Whichever way you use, make sure you are using identical coverages and limits on every quote you get. If the quotes have different liability limits you will not be able to make an equal comparison. Just a small difference in coverages may result in a large different in cost. Just keep in mind that comparing more company’s prices provides better odds of finding a lower rate. Some companies don’t provide prices over the internet, so you need to compare quotes on coverage from those companies, too.
When it comes to choosing coverage for your personal vehicles, there really is no cookie cutter policy. Every insured’s situation is different.
For example, these questions could help you determine whether or not you would benefit from an agent’s advice.
If you can’t answer these questions but one or more may apply to you, you might consider talking to an insurance agent. If you don’t have a local agent, simply complete this short form.
Understanding the coverages of insurance can help you determine which coverages you need at the best deductibles and correct limits. Policy terminology can be ambiguous and even agents have difficulty translating policy wording.
Uninsured Motorist or Underinsured Motorist insurance – This coverage protects you and your vehicle’s occupants from other motorists when they either are underinsured or have no liability coverage at all. It can pay for hospital bills for your injuries and also any damage incurred to your 2010 Mazda CX-9.
Due to the fact that many drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, their limits can quickly be used up. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is a good idea.
Collision coverages – Collision insurance pays for damage to your CX-9 caused by collision with another car or object. A deductible applies then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.
Collision coverage pays for things like driving through your garage door, crashing into a building, hitting a mailbox, sideswiping another vehicle and crashing into a ditch. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider removing coverage from vehicles that are older. You can also increase the deductible to bring the cost down.
Coverage for liability – This coverage can cover injuries or damage you cause to other people or property in an accident. Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. You might see limits of 25/50/25 that translate to $25,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a total of $50,000 of bodily injury coverage per accident, and $25,000 of coverage for damaged propery.
Liability insurance covers things like structural damage, attorney fees, medical services and loss of income. How much coverage you buy is a personal decision, but you should buy as much as you can afford.
Comprehensive coverage (or Other than Collision) – Comprehensive insurance coverage will pay to fix damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first have to pay a deductible and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive insurance covers things such as damage from a tornado or hurricane, vandalism, hail damage, fire damage and hitting a bird. The maximum payout you’ll receive from a claim is the cash value of the vehicle, so if the vehicle’s value is low consider removing comprehensive coverage.
Insurance for medical payments – Med pay and PIP coverage kick in for immediate expenses such as surgery, nursing services, rehabilitation expenses, X-ray expenses and dental work. The coverages can be used in conjunction with a health insurance plan or if there is no health insurance coverage. They cover all vehicle occupants and will also cover getting struck while a pedestrian. PIP is not an option in every state and may carry a deductible
