Compare 2012 Kia Rio Insurance Rates

Looking for better auto insurance rates for your Kia Rio? Getting the lowest price auto insurance might appear somewhat intimidating for people who are new to online price comparisons. With such a large number of agents and insurers to choose from, how can drivers efficiently compare every auto insurance company to find the best available rates?

Shop auto insurance online

The are a couple different ways of comparing rates from local auto insurance companies. The simplest method to find the lowest 2012 Kia Rio rates involves getting comparison quotes online. It is quite easy and can be accomplished in several different ways.

If you are pressed for time, the simplest way to get quotes would be an industry-wide quote request form like this one (opens in new window). This form saves time by eliminating separate quote forms to each individual auto insurance company. A single form gets prices estimates direct from many companies. It’s the fastest way to compare.

A less efficient way to find lower rates is to take the time to go to each company’s website and get a separate price quote. For sake of this example, we’ll assume you want rates from State Farm, Farmers and Geico. In order to compare rates, you need to take the time to go to each site and type in your information over and over, which is why first method is reommended. The old school method of getting rate comparisons is to drive around to each insurance agency near you. Doing it all online eliminates this option unless you want the professional advice of an agent trained in personal lines coverage. Although, it is possible comparison shop online but have a local agent actually write the policy.

However you get your quotes, double check that you are using equivalent coverage limits and deductibles on every quote you get. If you are comparing different liability limits it’s not possible to make an equal comparison. Quoting even small variations in coverages can make a big difference in price. And when quoting auto insurance, remember that getting more free quotes will enable you to find a better price.

Tailor your insurance coverage coverage to you

When choosing adequate coverage, there really is not a “best” method to buy coverage. Coverage needs to be tailored to your specific needs.

For instance, these questions may help you determine if your insurance needs may require specific advice.

  • Can I rent a car in Mexico?
  • Am I covered if I break a side mirror?
  • Do I have coverage when making deliveries for my home business?
  • What companies insure drivers after a DUI or DWI?
  • Am I missing any policy discounts?
  • Does car insurance cover theft of personal property?
  • Do I have newly-aquired coverage?
  • If my pet gets injured in an accident are they covered?

If you can’t answer these questions but you know they apply to you then you might want to talk to a licensed insurance agent. If you want to speak to an agent in your area, take a second and complete this form.

Car insurance 101

Learning about specific coverages of your policy aids in choosing the best coverages and the correct deductibles and limits. The coverage terms in a policy can be difficult to understand and nobody wants to actually read their policy.

Medical costs insurance

Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance provide coverage for expenses for things like rehabilitation expenses, hospital visits, doctor visits, funeral costs and ambulance fees. They can be used in conjunction with a health insurance policy or if there is no health insurance coverage. Medical payments and PIP cover not only the driver but also the vehicle occupants in addition to any family member struck as a pedestrian. Personal injury protection coverage is not an option in every state but can be used in place of medical payments coverage

Auto liability insurance

This coverage provides protection from damage that occurs to other’s property or people. This insurance protects YOU from legal claims by others. It does not cover your injuries or vehicle damage.

Coverage consists of three different limits, bodily injury for each person injured, bodily injury for the entire accident and a property damage limit. You might see values of 25/50/25 which means a $25,000 limit per person for injuries, $50,000 for the entire accident, and a total limit of $25,000 for damage to vehicles and property. Occasionally you may see a combined single limit or CSL which provides one coverage limit and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.

Liability coverage protects against claims like attorney fees, pain and suffering, legal defense fees, court costs and medical services. How much coverage you buy is up to you, but you should buy higher limits if possible.

Collision insurance

This covers damage to your Rio resulting from colliding with another car or object. You have to pay a deductible then your collision coverage will kick in.

Collision coverage protects against claims such as scraping a guard rail, sustaining damage from a pot hole, hitting a parking meter and backing into a parked car. Collision coverage makes up a good portion of your premium, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from older vehicles. Drivers also have the option to bump up the deductible to save money on collision insurance.

Comprehensive or Other Than Collision

Comprehensive insurance coverage covers damage OTHER than collision with another vehicle or object. You first must pay your deductible and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive coverage protects against things like hail damage, a tree branch falling on your vehicle and damage from flooding. The maximum amount you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the actual cash value, so if the vehicle is not worth much it’s not worth carrying full coverage.

UM/UIM Coverage

This provides protection from other drivers when they either have no liability insurance or not enough. It can pay for medical payments for you and your occupants as well as your vehicle’s damage.

Since a lot of drivers only purchase the least amount of liability that is required, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. For this reason, having high UM/UIM coverages is a good idea. Normally the UM/UIM limits are similar to your liability insurance amounts.

Nice info. I’m in the west part of Juneau, AK. I got free rates from Auto-Owners, Eastwood, and Safeco for my Rio and I’m now saving $18 a month. Left Eastwood to switch. Have an at-fault accident tho. It was easy to get rates.

I got quite a few price quotes for a 2012 Kia Rio in Saint Louis, Missouri. Ended up at darn near $500 every six months with Auto-Owners. Insured with AAA before. Even increased coverage a bit. It’s easy to compare rates online now.

If you have a good history and are close to Boise, Idaho, check out State Farm. They seem to be cheaper. Insured with Erie before. I think they have home insurance too. It never hurts to quote around.
