Understanding the coverages of auto insurance can be of help when determining the best coverages for your vehicles. The terms used in a policy can be impossible to understand and reading a policy is terribly boring.
UM/UIM Coverage – This coverage protects you and your vehicle when other motorists do not carry enough liability coverage. Covered claims include injuries to you and your family and damage to your Ford Edge.
Since a lot of drivers have only the minimum liability required by law, it doesn’t take a major accident to exceed their coverage limits. That’s why carrying high Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage is important protection for you and your family. Normally these limits do not exceed the liability coverage limits.
Comprehensive or Other Than Collision – This coverage will pay to fix damage that is not covered by collision coverage. You first have to pay a deductible then the remaining damage will be covered by your comprehensive coverage.
Comprehensive coverage protects against claims like fire damage, rock chips in glass, damage from getting keyed, theft and hail damage. The maximum payout you can receive from a comprehensive claim is the cash value of the vehicle, so if the vehicle’s value is low consider removing comprehensive coverage.
Collision – This pays for damage to your Edge resulting from a collision with a stationary object or other vehicle. You have to pay a deductible and then insurance will cover the remainder.
Collision coverage protects against claims such as backing into a parked car, sustaining damage from a pot hole, sideswiping another vehicle, damaging your car on a curb and colliding with a tree. Collision is rather expensive coverage, so consider dropping it from lower value vehicles. It’s also possible to increase the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.
Medical costs insurance – Med pay and PIP coverage pay for short-term medical expenses for things like nursing services, dental work, funeral costs and pain medications. They are often used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if you lack health insurance entirely. Coverage applies to all vehicle occupants as well as getting struck while a pedestrian. Personal Injury Protection is not universally available but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage
Liability – Liability insurance will cover damage or injury you incur to other people or property that is your fault. It protects YOU against claims from other people. It does not cover damage to your own property or vehicle.
Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have limits of 50/100/50 that translate to $50,000 in coverage for each person’s injuries, a per accident bodily injury limit of $100,000, and a limit of $50,000 paid for damaged property. Some companies may use a combined limit that pays claims from the same limit with no separate limits for injury or property damage.
Liability insurance covers things like medical services, legal defense fees and court costs. How much coverage you buy is up to you, but you should buy as much as you can afford.
Some insurance companies don’t offer internet price quotes and many times these regional insurance providers work with independent insurance agents. Low-cost 2017 Ford Edge insurance can be purchased both online and from local insurance agents, and you should compare price quotes from both in order to have the best chance of saving money.
As you shop your coverage around, do not buy lower coverage limits just to save a few bucks. There have been many situations where consumers will sacrifice liability limits or collision coverage only to discover later that the few dollars in savings costed them thousands. Your goal is to buy a smart amount of coverage at an affordable rate while not skimping on critical coverages.
Consumers switch companies for many reasons like lack of trust in their agent, an unsatisfactory settlement offer, extreme rates for teen drivers or high prices. It doesn’t matter what your reason, switching insurance companies is not as difficult as it may seem.

Any companies in Cleveland, Ohio that will insure a DUI?
IT’S ALL TOO EXPENSIVE! I live just outside West Valley City, Utah. I quoted with American Family, Mercury, and a few others for my Edge and saved just over $150 a year. Ask about discounts.
I live north of Norman, OK. Quoted with GEICO, Auto-Owners, Farmers, and GMAC for my Edge and I’m now saving $20 a month. I’m a pretty low risk driver.
If you don’t have tickets and live near Seattle, WA, check out GEICO. They seem to be cheaper. Are quotes cheaper online?
I’ve had State Farm for years. I’m in Warwick, RI.
If you don’t have tickets and live in the vicinity of Cranston, RI, check out Allstate. You might get cheaper rates. Left USAA to switch. Can still barely afford it.
From northwest of Chesapeake, Virginia. Quoted quotes with Western Auto Insurance, AAA, The General, and Safeco for my Edge and saved just over $160 a year. Left Auto-Owners to switch. I increased coverages a little too.
Cheap is not always the best policy. I live on the east side of Los Angeles, California. Can’t remember who all I quoted but I ended up saving about $40 each month. I get lower rates because of my clean driving record. Not sure if rates are cheaper online or not.
I live just to the south of Biloxi, MS. Received quotes with AIG Insurance, Mercury, and USAA for my Ford and saved around $360 a year.
It’s all a rip off. Went with Erie for my Edge and saved around $300 a year. Was with 21st Century.
